Unusual Candidates In Your Area

There's also an independent standing - Hazel Mansfield.  She seems to be based in the Western Isles and is an anti-violence against women campaigner.  TUSC are also running as well I see.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has no female councillors at all, and had a peak of 5 female councillors between 2007 and 2012. They've never had a female MP or MSP, and this time there are no female constituency candidates. In the previous 5 Scottish Parliament elections they've had a total of two female candidates - one socialist, and Rhoda Grant for Labour last time.

Not a great look.

However is the name of the party not a little misleading that may dupe some (I don't know older or less discerning) voters? If I was a rabid right wing moon howler like this guy and wanted to tap into say the Liberal Democrat vote (an envious demographic group I concede), would I be able to set up a party and register it as say, the Scottish Left Liberals?

Party names aren't allowed to be misleading, but I think they would get a lot of latitude on that and what they're really looking for is party names that are too similar to existing parties or that say "Put Cross Here". https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/sites/default/files/2021-01/to-names-rp.pdf

I see Count Dankula is standing for the Scottish Libertarians.

You have to feel for any Libertarians who aren't smug WUMs, as they certainly seem to be in the minority.

I looked at that Wiki page the other day and it's been edited since then.  This is the bit that was at the end when I last read it -

McConnachie has decided now to support Scottish independence as he now realises that the so called British union is so corrupt its better scotland to leave and thrive on its own.[6].

ha - so I wonder when that last bit was edited? Prior to all his anti-indy/counter demonstrations in his manky jacket and prior to his Force for Good "work"? If so, what was the event which caused such a seismic shift in his view?

Or is it post Force for Good and he has recently had a Saul on the road to Damascus moment - maybe in assessing all the snout in trough and corruption opportunities that C-19 has opened up for the Tory Govt and their cronies?

Whatever way you want to look at it, and putting aside his apparent quite odious/extreme viewpoints re the holocaust and other associated right wing tropes , I wonder what drives him to pursue fringe politics and put himself forward at elections for over 20 years with so little resonance every time and at every turn?

Bit of an age difference here Stormzy, as I remember him going out with a lassie that I was at school with. We were at her 18th and he was there all armoured up! Almost 40 years ago! He might be a career lunatic, but he did pen the fantastic “Inside Out” for Odyssey.

Interesting to think that a fair chunk of these smaller parties will actually cut each others throats.  From what I can see the Scottish Libertarians, Reform UK, Freedom Alliance and I assume UKIP are all running on anti-lockdown platforms.  None of these bands of lunatics were going to get anywhere anyway, but it they're going to do even more poorly at this rate.

"Over The Sea" much better though. 😁

I see according to the ballot description on the Electoral Commission website the Libertarians want an end to 'restirctions'.

Evidently the libertarian position of handing over education to the private sector sees a reduction in literacy rates.

The former German Mr Leather and winner of hottest rimming at the 2012 Grabby Awards is standing on the Highlands and Islands list.

The dangers of young children having access to pornographic materials is being highlighted by Philipp Tanzer, the Scottish Family Party’s regional list candidate for the Highlands and Islands in the May Holyrood election.

Durness based Mr Tanzer (43), has a background in the gay porn industry but now raises awareness of the negative effect pornograpy can have on adults and particularly on children.

Philipp Tanzer. Philipp Tanzer.

He said there was a danger of addiction with people spending hours searching the web for pornography. It could also lead to unhealthy expectations which made people insecure about their own bodies.

“Porn is not a men’s problem,” he said. “Both boys and girls consume pornography and both suffer under its impact.”

Mr Tanzer is on the regional list alongside Scottish Family Party colleague Michael Willis.

Mr Willis claimed pornography was being promoted in the school curriculum in education on relationships, sexual health and parenthood (RSHP).

He said: “The big growth area for the consumption of porn are children aged between 12 and 17. This is partly because it is readily available and many parents are unaware, but also because it is being actively promoted within our schools.

"Pornography should be treated like alcohol and nicotine, especially when addressed in education. The dangers need to be highlighted and the current sex education is doing the opposite.”

The Scottish Government states on its website: “RSHP education is a key part of health and wellbeing within the Curriculum for Excellence. RSHP education focuses on equipping children and young people with the knowledge, skills and values to make informed and positive choices about forming relationships.

“It can assist with making safer decisions about their sexual and emotional health and wellbeing.”

It's important to have people with different credentials invovled in politics.  Normally that means people who have run their own business or are experienced public servants but I guess someone who won best three way in the 2009 Grabby Awards also fits the bill.

Btw, @Sherrif John Bunnell he was only nominated for hottest rimming in 2012.  Pretty embarrassing mistake, call yourself an early 2010s rimming fan?

I'd never heard that song before or of him until today but what a tune!  He looks a bit like a Scottish version of MF DOOM in that hemet!

I would like to apologise to Dean Monroe and Kayden Hart, who were of course the joint winners of the Hottest Rimming award at the 2012 Grabbies.
