New clubs in the East of Scotland

Does the grey area in the map mean that Dundee clubs and Tayport have a choice of applying to EOSFL or ML? The area has been left grey for a reason.

He said in a further tweet that that was an error as Dundee should've been yellow (and Tayport as well now).

Club Statement As a club, Tayport are pleased and excited with the news emanating from the SJFA and ERSJFA with regards to the Highland League. To this end we have withdrawn our application to join the East of Scotland.

Well, that answers the question about where Tayport will go. And it also explains why the rumoured EOS/ML boundary in that area follows postcode boundaries and not local authority ones. Just Perthshire to become clear and it's all good to go from that point. :)

Glad that the issue is finally being settled and that Tayport are able to make their favoured choice. Historically the club has always looked towards Tayside and not Fife.

Tayport (as well as Newport, Wormit and Gauldry) - to all intents and purposes is a suburb of Dundee, vast majority of commuters who live there travel to Dundee not to Cupar or St Andrews.

Great news that the North looks like it’s up and running, hopefully we’ll see some promotion and relegation to the HL in the near future and the odd club getting licensed (appreciate there’s a lot who’ll not be aiming for this anytime soon up North). Can the SFA/SPFL now adjust the line so Tayport is HL and Luncarty LL and set it in stone to avoid a LL team going up to SPFL 2 and then going down to the HL. Tay bridge is a good HL/LL boundary but a slight adjustment for two clubs right on the line and we’re done. Interesting the SJFA will continue to run ML and NL will the Junior Cup eventually end up as a Aberdeen / Dundee cup? Think the WOSFL will gradually withdraw as time passes unless it becomes the Nationwide cup for tier 5 or 6 and below.

Undoubtedly Broughty Athletic, Tayport & Lochee United will go for licensing in the first season. I can see a few other clubs following in the not too distant future.

Violet, North End, Downfield, Lochee Harp, Kirriemuir, Brechin Vics and Coupar Angus can't be too far off on ticking the ground related boxes unless there are major issues with their dressing rooms and toilet blocks etc.

Will be excellent to see some going for it and they’ll be welcome additions to the Scottish Cup. There’s many clubs who’ll be no where near it but it’s important it’s open to them if circumstances change. No reason even smaller clubs can’t aim for it as a long term plan.

Who’s your tip that will eventually step up to the HL from the 3 tier 6 leagues in the North?

I'm biased here obviously, but I'd tip Lochee United as the first ones to make the step. The club are making serious work of improving both on and off the pitch. There is clearly the ambition to go up.

True, floodlights are the main issue with most of them. Coupar Angus has them but I'm not sure if they still work and are sufficient for licensing. They haven't played any floodlit games for a long time as far as I'm aware, with early kickoffs instead on weeknights. Although that might just be to save money due to them having been in a very bad state in recent years.

The SPFL Play-off boundary works just now since it's a minimum of 3 years away from causing any headaches that are only likely to ever apply to one club, Tayport.

Since the SPFL Play-off needs the SPFL, Highland, Lowland, and SFA to agree to any changes. I would rather they opened up that can of worms for a genuine change that's positive to the pyramid. Not for some minor tweak, that could see the SPFL look to change other aspects they're not happy with.

JustBecause has stated on the other thread that:

”Information  provided to Tayside teams was that at the conclusion of season 21/22 the top 6 clubs along with the top 6 from the North juniors would come together to form a Premier/superleague at tier 6 seeing those remaining teams become a 7th tier. “

Are the ML and NL to be amalgamated for 2022/23 and are we simply witnessing an interim solution for 2021/22?

Interesting. Is that not effectively a Highland League 2nd division but run by the SJFA rather than the HL.

No, because the North Caledonian League would still exist in that proposal.

Is it not surprising that NRSJFA are kicking four clubs out and sending them to the NCL? I wonder how those clubs feel about it.

And Coupar Angus may be a modest wee club, but they sell actual world champion pies. That gets them a (clotted) place in my heart.

They aren't. The boundary line that has been proposed between NCL and NRSJFA at the moment is more intended for clubs that are relegated from the Highland League. In the same way the HL/LL boundary is for Club 42.

Ah, that's different from what he said before.

Still a weird place to draw the line, when you can draw a line only a little further west and have nobody on the wrong side of it.

At the moment the River Spey is probably being used as a shorthand in the same way that the Tay was when coming up with the dividing line between Highland and Lowland.

Hopefully once put into place they'll put a bit more thought into the actual implications.

While there's obvious agreement to make this work. Things aren't set in stone just yet.
