New clubs in the East of Scotland

Recommended Posts

Think the majority of clubs will look towards going 'senior' in time ,leaving those who wish to stay amateur, somewhere to play. Good sticking points would be the criteria level required for each division - thus stopping someone throwing money around, unless the ground is developed similarly. Given the current climate, finances are going to dictate. Fully expect many youth clubs to form links before too long.

^^^if WoS are involved that suggests an LL catchment angle.

We already knew that the ERSJFA were talking with Highland and Lowland going by the information accredited to John Reilly. So it's no surprise that everyone is getting represented. Since these are likely to be "Zoom" calls as well there's no excuse travel wise in not having everyone there.

When it was brought up in conversation there was nothing further mentioned beyond the usual chat. The only other comment relevant was below:.

Very interesting. Hope the Pyramid Working Group are able to also look in detail at the implications and fairness of Tayport and Scone Thistle looking towards the Midland League as a future abode. Those two clubs also present a tricky situation that needs to be sorted out once and for all. Both clubs historically look towards Tayside as the area where they have been accommodated. However, you could say the same for Jeanfield Swifts, Luncarty and Kinnoull who now see their respective futures south in the EOSFL. Whatever decision is made could have huge implications for a number of clubs. The whole position makes me feel a little uncomfortable.

Something akin to the WoS/EoS agreement would cover it - a fixed boundary line with an agreement that clubs on the 'wrong' side of the line for their current league could stay in their current league, and no-one is forced to change league against their will.   I think it would be better to see the line readjusted so that all of Perthshire goes north, which would be more geographically rational for the three clubs mentioned (who have not had the option of joining a pyramid Midland League before) and would do something to strengthen what looks a rather weak Midland League.  The relevant clubs really should be included in the discussions as well.

To be fair, nobody really knows. These clubs could only join the pyramid through the EoS when they did (same with Letham who are trying to join). It will be interesting to see what their preferences would be, it could well be that they're happy to stay EoS and see their future there, but maybe some might prefer ML instead. Nobody knows really as none of these clubs have spoken out about it as far as I know.

I guess one option could be to change the current line to 2 lines of latitude: one just north of Luncarty (keeping Dundee north of it), one south of Perth and letting clubs in that area choose where to go. That affects only one SPFL club who aren't exactly likely to drop out of the SPFL any time soon (St. Johnstone) and immediately covers the "issues" around Luncarty, Scone and Tayport.

Think the uncertainty over this relates largely to what will happen between the LL and SPFL on the Club 42 boundary line when active reconstruction plans are still unfolding. Until that's resolved to the point that nobody (for the sake of argument let's call them Brechin City) questions where the divide should be any more, the EoS leaving Dundee/Angus as a grey area is a way of making sure that the east region can't use this as a backdoor into the LL portion of the pyramid as a second east feeder. Hopefully the Forfar WE application has provided the catalyst needed for a clear resolution of the way forward for all involved.

See that Brora Rangers have been announced as champions from the Highland League to take part in the play offs.
The intersting point to note here is in their statement the Highland League state the following

"The SHFL is a committed member league of the SFA Pyramid for Scottish Football. This commitment brings with it an obligation to produce a champion club to take part in the annual Pyramid Play-offs and, once the appropriate arrangements are in place at Pyramid Level 6, to ensure that play-offs between Level 5 and Level 6 in the North/North-East of Scotland are established."

Sounds like the door is wide open for Level 6 feeder leagues in the Highland League

Good to read, I haven't heard anything about yesterday's PWG yet, but they wouldn't have put that out if there weren't positive discussions at the very least.

Agreed, especially as it is a statement all about Brora as their champions, there was no real need to add the bit I quoted.

Interesting. It says play-offs between Pyramid Levels 5 and 6 not automatic promotion and relegation. Am I reading too much into the statement?

The pyramid system is a great idea, always has been but lots of problems regarding the workings of it with teams wanting to go hear and there and their locations and associations, bodies having meetings top work out best ideas for all but all in all as the years roll on, its getting bigger and better and seems like once there's good solutions to these problems it will continue to progress for the whole of Scottish football

Really getting a good vibe that a few years down the line it will all be sorted and we will seeing no blockage of teams who want to progress.

The PWG was this morning, not yesterday.
