New clubs in the East of Scotland

Shared cup competitions would be an obvious one. Sadly the SJC is probably on the way out now given the level of fixture overload for the WoS next season so what fills that void? What replaces the East of Scotland Cup now there is no east region south? There is no SCC equivalent in the HL catchment, if the ML is part of the northern pyramid, so beyond the one cup with the north region that is only all in from the last 16 onwards there could be a very repetitive fixture list.

Am I correct in thinking that for season 21/22. The cups will be a South Challenge cup with at least 147 teams, then you will have the Senior Scottish Cup if any licensed teams are in that and then I'd expect there to be a EOS cup.

In the past I take it there were a couple of league cups that had individual sponsors ?

Normally you'll have the main cup, which in this case is not a Scottish but the SCC

You'll have  a West and a East cup and a SOS cup
Then there's the senior Scottish cup for any licensed teams that are included from all leagues
Cant see the WOSFL adding any more due to the amount of games in the premier

but can see the EOSFL adding  another cup if their leagues don't have as many league games to play like the WOSFL next season

Are Tayport FC fully committed to football on the north side of the Tay? This news item has just appeared on their website.

Amateur Football returning to Tayport!

Tayport Football Club are thrilled to announce that Amateur football is returning to the club and the town. From the start of the 2021/22 season there will be an Amateur team in Tayport again in the form of Tayport FC Amateurs who will be competing in the RJM Sports Kingdom of Fife AFA Division 1. They will play and train at East Common, Tayport, and will play in the same colours as the Junior team. The Amateur team will be part of the club structure, meaning there will be opportunities for players to progress into the first team if they impress for the amateurs. Former English Semi Professional footballer Ryan Anderson, previously with West Allotment Celtic FC and Barnoldswick Town FC, will be player manager of the team.

So the club that we are led to believe are no longer interested in joining the EOSFL and see their future in the embryo ML are really a Fife oriented club after all and wish to put their new amateur side in the Kingdom of Fife AFA Division 1.

The move does send out a rather mixed message.

Is this a mixed message or are Tayport still planning on going to the EOS? Have we seen anything official to say they are no longer interested in applying?

We are guilty of believing everything in this forum but so much of it is speculation. Until the EOS tell us how many applications they have received (and that isn’t usually on the 1st April) we’re just guessing.

Led to believe by who? A bunch of posters with no affiliation with the club have suggested what they might be doing based on their history and a podcast interview with the Chair from several months ago.

Tayport have typically been good at updating their website/social media to inform their fans what's going on. They've updated their website recently, so I don't exactly what was said. But back in 2018 they were one of the few clubs that didn't sign up for the EoSFL that gave an official update around the moves that were happening.

If they had made a decision to go to the EoSFL i'm sure they would have communicated it already. That doesn't mean they've made a decision either way just yet.

As for having a team in the Fife Amateurs, they've done so previously.

Dunbar United had an amateurs team (may still do) which I had a feeling was meant to be a sort of development team so Tayport might be doing the same.

The Ammies are still around. They take it in turns with West Barns Star and East Linton to field the best of east East Lothian’s amateur footballers. It’s apparently East Linton’s turn next season.

In the message attributed to John Reilly of the ERSJFA it was said there would be a PWG meeting on either the 29th March or April 2nd.

The shorthand of PWG has been used to represent different things (Everyone, Lowland subgroup, Highland subgroup, whatever that mini-one was supposed to be around the creation of the WoSFL).

Given the nature of the ERSJFA's attempts to get into pyramid, it's fair to assume the EoSFL would be represented unless it's a purely Highland affair. I was just wondering if anyone with EoS connections has heard any rumblings of this meeting actually taking place? Especially with one of the proposed dates falling after March 31st.

The Tayport amateurs are self founded and are clearly trying to get shared facilities. There are no other facilities in the Town. As of now I am not aware of them having any players. The choice of Fife amateur over Midlands amateur is likely as the new manager has been involved in that league already. Trials to be held on the common in July and not on the caniepart shows the very small link between the organisations
As pointed out they previously had teams in both amateur areas and even at the same time in the 80s..
A complete red herring.Simply a welcome return to some more grass roots football in the town.

As long as it's made clear to everyone what happens on what date as we don't want opposing sides to argue about that afterwards and get an inquiry about this.

Most of the leagues, and certainly the clubs, have decisions to make ahead of the 2021-22 season. The SPFL have announced their start dates for 2021-22 and the SPFL League Cup is starting on 10th July. The WoSFL were talking about July 17th. If there's the intention of being in the pyramid for 2021-22 there doesn't seem to be much wriggle room to get all the Lowland area leagues on board.

Which is why i'm curious to see if there is a PWG meeting on the docket as far as the EoS is concerned.

Why would they want to remain a glorified amateur league, ...

For much the same reasons that non-glorified amateur leagues do. There are plenty of clubs around the country that are primarily about active participation by local players rather than paid spectator interest and are perfectly content with that being the limit of their ambitions. Most of the north region and NCL clubs fall a lot closer to that sort of category than was typically the case with junior clubs in the central belt.

Because of the way that the senior vs junior grade split unfolded historically central belt juniors were often closer to Highland League clubs in stature and significance to their local community. Junior football does not have anything close to the same sort of status in the traditional HL catchment that it did in the former coal mining portions of the central belt. In the present day, the few slightly bigger fish in the north region's relatively shallow pond (e.g. Banks o Dee and Culter) seem to be happy enough where they are and have not been falling over themselves in recent years to sign up for away trips to Fort William and Wick through applications to the HL.

It would be good to see strong tier 6 setups emerging beneath the HL, but they can't just be wished into existance. There should be an attempt to see things from the other person's point of view rather than an assumption that because something has happened in the central belt the same thing will automatically happen in another part of the country with a different football culture.

Is the current lack of communication from any quarters by those seeking to initiate the ML a sound strategy or a weakness? I am not sure. Certainly Tayport do not appear to be providing any updates to their followers this time around.

From the touch line the whole process appears to lack momentum but another poster indicated that things have moved from 0-100 mph. Overall it presents a rather confusing picture.

The only reason we know about the attempt to create a Midland League, the meeting with the Highland League, the attempt of a meeting with the Lowland League, and this supposed PWG meeting is because there's been communication amongst those involved and someone decided to leak it on here.

All of which happened just 6 days ago. I'm not really sure what's more to be communicated since the PWG is a date in the future and it's not clear if the meeting with the LL has happened yet.

Not sure how they can confirm
They are in the fife Ammies league as they weren’t in it or was an application heard as of Tuesday this week.

Just wondering how the Sauchie Juniors Community FC application will progress. One option would be for the Tullibody Community FC name to re-emerge:

Tullibody Community of course is recognised as one of the few Legacy level clubs with reference to the FA Quality Mark standard.  Syngenta is another club that has achieved that award.

Pure speculation on my part but a name change is to be expected in my view.

I have followed this thread with interest  (nowt else to do right now !)

I am sure that Brechin City would be delighted if FWE were admitted to the EOS league.               It would surely strengthen their case that, if they lost a league playoff, they should be demoted to the LL rather than the HL.                                                                                                                          They are only 13 miles further up the road !!

Nice bit of exposure coming up on BT sport for the Vale. Cracking club. Great people.

What are BT doing on the Vale? Want to echo this too, we played the Vale at Starks in the cup in 2012, brilliant fans who couldn’t have been nicer. The Vale board even sent a letter of thanks to us for hospitality and wishing us well in the next game and rest of our season. Would love another fixture against them but away this time.
