It’s all gone a bit quiet, hasn’t it? No wonder. Nothing’s changing. Yes is STILL behind.

Bar from the tub thumping moon howlers, the great Scottish public just aren’t that arsed.

There's been literally zero campaigning around the issue.

I'd take more notice of the polls once an IndyRef2 campaign is under way.

Absolute straw-clutching desperation to have spent your entire life watching the timer slowly tick down to indy o'clock and still frantically insist it isn't happening.

Has been interesting to watch the narrative develop from natters on this thread and elsewhere in the last five years.
It’s went from ‘when Bojo and Brexit happens we will be comfortably ahead in the polls and we can have the referendum then’
To ‘Brexit and Bojo has happened, yet we are STILL behind, so we will just need to call it and hope for the best’

If only it were that simple.  Covid has pushed the constitutional debate off the front pages whilst concentrating the thoughts of almost all of the electorate.  It has also served Johnson's Government well in the sense that it has masked the utter disaster that is Brexit.

That can't last forever however and as we enter the new reality the wartime analogies and overblown Budget rhetoric will be blown apart by surging inflation, widespread shortages and mortgage defaults.  In Brexit and wider economic terms we're not yet off the second tee, and the Tories and their cheerleaders are now trusting to hope rather than anything more grounded in fact.

Unionists may comfort themselves in thinking that the Independence debate is looking more settled - they are wrong.

What is it about self-determination for Scotland that is such a uniquely abnormal thing?
Should Norway go back to being in a united kingdom with Sweden? Why not just get the whole band back together and start Kalmar V2.0? Think of all the pooling and sharing!

Self determination to run own affairs formed on a basis of social justice and being an outward looking country, returning to the EU and enjoying all the benefits of free movement of labour, people, and goods and services.

Or continuation of ruinous "I'm alright jack" right wing isolationist policies by controlling Westminster Govts led and/or made up of racist, lying, xenophobic, self serving elitists constantly targeting the poor and vulnerable.

Supporters of one of these options are "moon howlers".

This is one of big flaws in BritNat logic: if political union is such a self-evidently good, sensible, and defensible position, then why aren’t other countries lining up fold their statehood and merge with their larger neighbours? For that matter, if political union is so good, sensible, and defensible, why did the UK and its leaders just spend years telling us it was bad and that reclaiming sovereignty was good?

A buffet of cognitive dissonance!
