Which Junior club can claim the crown for football royalty

Cumbernauld Utd. Kenny Dalgleish

Saint Rochs. James McGrory

Let's see who wins

Any Junior supporter in the know understands that Larkhall Thistle wins this - by a country mile.

THIRTEEN full Scotland Internationalists,  ( including 5 captains ) , including Internationals for Australia, Ireland, the USA & England---- and hosts of other players who made their mark at Senior level.

There was a book " The Juniors " published 20-30 years ago which confirmed this, and did the late Bob Crampsey, who researched it in detail.

Bob Shankly the brother of Liverpool legend Bill was a Talbot player for a season. Although he never hit any heights as a player turning out for Alloa and Falkirk he made his mark as a manager. He guided Dundee who had Hugh Robertson another Talbot legend as a player to the Scottish League title at the beginning of the 60's. He also took Dundee to the European Cup semi's where they lost out to AC Milan on aggregate. He went on to manage a number of clubs before going on to be a director at Stirling Albion. The Talbot website has a page which highlights most of Talbot's more famous players and will include Kris Doolan in the near future when the Partick favourite decides to hang up his boots.

Apart from Shug Robertson there were a few more ex-Juniors in that Dundee title winning side of 61/62.  Pat Liney - Dalry Thistle, Bobby Cox - Dundee Osborne, Alan Gilzean - Coupar Angus plus Gordon Smith - Montrose Roselea & Dundee North End although about 20 years earlier.

I noticed a mention of John (Gilly) Gilmour in last week's Wishy twitter. John left Wishaw for Hamilton Accies before going on to become a regular in a Kilmarnock side that also featured Tommy Coghill, later of QoS and Hamilton Accies. Tommy had played for Blantyre Celtic as a 15 year old before moving to Cambuslang at the ripe old age of 16 and, after his senior stint,he was involved with a number of other Junior clubs, most notably when captaining Blantyre Vics to a Scottish Cup victory in 1982.

Incidentally, iirc,Tommy was also responsible for introducing his nephew to Junior fitba. The boy's name is Davy Hamilton and the rest,as they say,is( Pollok) history. :)
