Gordon was in the last team to beat England. We want him to be the last manager to beat England in a qualifier.

This was a quote from Regan on the BBC website. The useless moron can get nothing right

I had to read that a couple of times because I originally thought you meant that the quote from Regan about Strachan was - "The useless moron can get nothing right". I thought it was bang on until I realised my mistake.

I can't wait for this game. The noise a packed Hampden can generate is sometimes astonishing. The France, Italy and Spain games were just spine-tingling. Poland when we were ahead and Germany when we equalised similar.

If we can generate a noise like that, I doubt the EPL superstars will have experienced anything like it in their plastic league. I remember the French and Italian players, (who'd played in some of the biggest games in world football), saying it was the most intimidating atmosphere they'd ever known.

The singing voices will be well oiled by 5pm!

Strachan was on radio last night insisting this was not a "must win" game yet again. Its pretty obvious he is afraid of England for a start, and trying to deflect from the reality (it IS imperative to win this game). The interviewer of course gave him an easy ride without questioning why any home fixture could be countenanced as anything other than a victory. Instead Strachan mouthed the usual platitudes about players "feeling good about themselves" etc etc. The squad he has been allowed to pick, which has several baffling inclusions and other mystifying exclusions, is a fait accompli, fair enough. He will now, until he picks his starting 11 at the very last minute, be pondering how best to irritate and insult the fans who are being fleeced to watch the match. Having already prepared folk for defeat, he will then try to explain how its still possible to qualify should we lose or draw the match, in order to convince his employers to continue in the job (something he has a degree in at present) and at the same time be as awkward and insolent to anyone who dares question him.
Should we win - and there are still enough decent players if chosen correctly - expect the press to praise him to the heavens and his friends in high places hint at his expertise and the deserved reward of contract extension etc. Hardly bears thinking about.
As for the game itself, I see its available to the hoi polloi for once without charge. Oh, sorry I forgot, its an England game and STV always let us see them for free. Nevertheless any free game is a bonus these days. If all the Celtic players are included this is our best chance as they have all played recently and are in form. They are also on familiar ground and represent our own home league which is not so familiar to the opponent. One last request to Strachan. Do not play Martin upfront, the English would love that. He is a carthorse.
I expect him to play and that we will not win.

Who are the baffling exclusions?

It's wee blutes, the "mystifying exclusions"  will be anyone Scottish and the "baffling inclusions" will be anyone who can't recite the full works of Burns or doesn't really care for haggis.

England bring in a specialist......

"England manager Gareth Southgate has enlisted the help of Scottish attacking coach Allan Russell, the 36-year-old former Hamilton Accies, St Mirren, Airdrie United and Kilmarnock striker, to help his side prepare for Saturday's World Cup qualifier at Hampden (Daily Mail )

You must have read my mind. The latter include Martin, Snodgrass , Anya, Bannan , Fletcher, Morrison and Cairney. The former include McLean, McGregor and Miller.

Incidentally this will be the first Scotland game Ive been able to watch for a couple of years on tv. So thoughtful of STV to deign to present it to the country without subscription. Wonder which insightful pundits will be in the studio. May even have haggis sandwiches as an accompaniment.

Are you a Thistle fan right enough ? Fellow Glaswegian then.

The TV options for this are now looking grim. The commentators are:

Sky - Martin Tyler and Gary Neville
STV - Rob Maclean and Stuart McCall
ITV - Clive Tyldesley, Glenn Hoddle and Kevin Gallacher

I think STV will have to win out, simply because the other two will just turn into pro-England cheerleading.

Would rather lie in a pit of my own shite than listen to Glenn Hoddle.

Luckily will be watching it in a pub in Sussex that will be inhabited by a few Scots.

They are still on sale!  About 25 or so left in the upper section, mainly singles but most close together.

I'm not long off the phone and bought 2 together. Buzzing with that, thanks for your help!

He's training them in being a handsome b*****d.

Apparently he is an excellent strikers coach though, maybe a wise move from Southgate.  Hopefully he is training Kane et al in how to play the way he did for St Mirren.

Seriously raging about this.  I've got a ticket already but I was looking to buy 2 for my pal and his son who's not very well.  Waited 30 mins in line earlier and then was told they'd all sold out.

Will have to maybe give the radio commentary a rattle,
