Thank god for that. Ant is a complete pain in the arse.

They did a spin off called Wheeler Dealers Dream Car and Elvis was the mechanic in that. It was only 5 or 6 episodes but he seemed infinitely more likeable than Ant.

Still no Edd though.

The American Wheeler Dealers just didnt really work for me. I liked Ant. He was really good in For The Love Of Cars with Philip Glenister. It just didnt work with him on Wheeler Dealers.

The choice of cars was the problem. American car restoration shows really mean hotrods, muscle cars or really exceptional old cars. Iron Resurrection is great. Despite Kev Dog being annoying as f**k, Bitchin' Rides is also really good. Even Fast n Loud and Misfit Garage are decent enough to watch, even though Richard Rawlings is an absolute twat these days and the Misfit guys are a bit annoying. Those shows work because they're doing really iconic American muscle cars or hotrods. Mike and Ant restoring a family sedan just doesnt cut it. Its not really what the show has always been about - Wheeler Dealers at its best is about cars that the UK audience could relate to and a blend of mechanical fixes, some of which were viable for home mechanics.

Hopefully bringing it back to the UK will mean cars that UK audiences can relate to and a re-balance to show more of the spannering.

I love Car SOS too, but the shite they film with Tim trying to blag parts is cringy.

My wife really hates Tim for some reason, the minute WD went to spending £10k on cars ruined the prgramme.

I thought Ant was OK and he seemed to know his stuff. Not getting the hate for him on here.
He definitely knew his stuff but I just found him incredibly annoying.

Early Wheeler Dealers with Edd was great as it was all jobs that you felt could be done by a competent home mechanic. I preferred when the idea was just to take rough cars and fix them up a bit to make a profit.

Latterly, and particularly when the show moved to the USA, it seemed to be all about almost complete restorations and some of the jobs were ridiculous. When Ant modified the wing on the Escort Cosworth it was very impressive but not a chance someone could do that themselves.

TL;DR - hopefully it goes a bit more back to basics.

I didn't mind Ant in the slightest. Good guy, knows his shit.

I did mind it going 'all american' though, although I fully understand why Brewer chose to go that way. Even though it wasn't as good as the earlier UK based WD, it was still better than anything the americans put out. What with their constant shouting, whooping and high-fives. Get in the sea.
