Ayr Utd vs Raith Rovers

Recommended Posts

If Ayr go down they would need to double their crowds to break even? Am I reading that right?

Ayr are constantly operating at a loss, and our chairman has said that we require crowds of 3000 to rectify this. It's not a particularly hard state to believe to be honest, imagine the maintenance costs for Somerset for a start...

Our crowds were pathetic for the second half of last season when we were the best team in a league that contained Rangers and Hibs (by the form book). We couldn't even break 2k home fans for the game vs Rangers, with the team in red hot form.
The crowds you are quoting are from almost ten years ago. Things have changed, we won't see crowds like that again in this league, let alone the league below.

The crowds quoted are almost ten years old because that was the last time we were in that league. It's conceivable we could be fighting for a league title with St Mirren next year. Are you saying head to head games with both sides doing well wouldn't attract crowds around 3000 or possibly more? Throw in East Fife games for novelty factor and the average crowds would be similar to what next year in the Championship would be with an Inverness and Livi added to the league.

Let's hope we don't have the chance to prove it though, eh?

We won't go part time due to having Val McDermid on the board, who is vast. wealthy and isn't keen on it with men.

Ftfy.

Seriously, is she on the board? I thought she was just a wealthy supporter who put cash in via sponsorship. Does she take an active role on the board?

We played games with no strikers, our fault not the oppositions, games should only be postponed for flu outbreaks etc where a fair % of a squad is affected, perhaps 5 or 6 senior players left.

Airdrie were forced to play on at least one occasion where 8 or 9 players were out with flu or something equally debilitating, never lost on at least one of those occasions where everyone was opposing them on coupons.

Not saying for one minute that the game should have been postponed cause we made a Cnut of it but Hearts had a game postponed due to only having the option of fielding a 16 year old in goals

Well no, not quite, though that was part of it. Hearts had a game postponed because they were without about 12 first team squad members due to illness which included all their senior goalkeepers. The SPFL in postponing the game did make a point about minimising the risk of spreading the bug to Inverness players also. There was a lot more to it than Hearts only having a 16 year old keeper. It was also after the transfer deadline of 31 March so bringing in additional players wasn't an option.

Raith chief exec admitting he's a dumbass on stv news.

He thinks we (not just Rovers fans, but everyone watching) are so naive we'll continue to fall for his "it's everyone else's fault routine".

Did you spot the line, "had I been given the information"? That's his attempted get out right there.

if the SPFL hadn't issued their statement, his segment on STV news would have been one huge dig at how unfair everything was. Instead, he's had to wipe SPFL induced egg off his face... but still trying to apportion blame somewhere else.

pretty sure Drysdale is on the Working Panel Hugues talks about, also has he been taking elocution lessons from Sean Connery. His touchline ban for his comment is likely to be lengthy the SPFL can't stand criticism especially when it's pretty much unfounded.
