Can't be arsed digging into the statistics, but that year, from memory, Dumfries  went through the whole calendar month of January  with the temperature never rising above zero. 

We actually didn't give it that much thought at the time. There was very little wind or snow, just constant freezing, and, Doonhamers being Doonhamers, they thought, well, tomorrow will be better. 

(it was probably the same for the whole country. It was indeed a hum dinger of a winter)

It certainly was- in Edinburgh some ned arsehole got charged for driving his car along the frozen Union Canal!

Hats off to the guy. If the ice cracked and he disappeared  .  .  .  well, he's going out on a high. 

If I was a ned at the time (which i wasn't) I might have been tempted.

Was out of Edinburgh a bit over next to Winchburgh shale bing if I recall correctly. Think it was a Peugeot too.

Doing a bit of felling the other day, a few wood wasps hanging about because of the sap in the air. Totally harmless but fuuuuuck meeee you shit yourself when its buzzing round your head then lands on you!

Used to see thses fairly regularly in the woods, this was first time in about 4 years so that's encouraging.
