This is a slightly older one, from Autumn 2015 iirc. Loch Clair in Glen Torridon. I used a 16-stopper and fired the shutter for about 16 minutes

I don't normally like shots with little going on in the foreground but the colours came up pretty well here.

The colours came up braw.
It's like a red belt in the middle of the pic.
Puts me in mind of the hills in Utah where the cowboy movies are made.

Although take away the foreground and the sky and the hills could be photographed from the Mars Rover

I took that in the middle of a week of almost perfect weather up north. We had excellent sunrises and sunsets all week.

I take it the 8k lens is no compatible with your cameras :)
Years ago on another forum a guy commented that I must have a good camera.
I soon telt him  but I also agreed with him.

Here's another silhouette.
It's a jackdaw on lamp-post

I like these 'minimalist' pics.
No background to distract.
One of my favourites with a hint of a shadow.

pb50.thumb.jpg.cbf714aa0655e8706426e7d9d2806e22.jpg

and another one

Yes it is. Fits the D500 like a glove. Not tried it on the D610.

It's a prime lens and if I could afford one would be tempted.

Here are another two that I did.
I cheated tho'.
I have a book on Scottish Views circa 1900.
I scanned several pics, took out the backgrounds then made up my own.
As posters printed out at A3 size they are superb.
I made one print for my own use then checked the net.
Unfortunately the copyright is still owned by a University :(

Is there much difference between photoshop elements 14 and 15? There's about £30 of a difference on Amazon and wondering if there's any major differences.

My set-up is an XP operating system + Photoshop CS3 so I’m unfamiliar with photoshop elements.
I did find these reviews online and I also found a ‘free’ download of Photoshop CS3.
I’m no sure whether CS3 is free or it’s the download that’s free.

Ultimately you will have to decide which one is for you but I would suggest always go for the latest model.

The editor of an in-house magazine sent me an email asking for a couple of pics.
I sent her a few including this one which she printed.

pb58.jpg.cbb971bedf7d133f155e43c896d774d5.jpg

She asked me for a couple of lines describing the photo.
I wrote:
The image of the seagull isn't real.
I did it to prove that the camera can lie.
I stood on a bridge and took a photo of the seagull in flight.
I then stood under the bridge and photographed the tunnel.
I cut out the view and replaced it with the seagull.

She couldn’t believe the photo wasn’t real.
That must have been a bloody big seagull

I like it.
Look at the shape of the wings.
They match the outline of the tunnel.

Depends on how much post processing you want to do Spud. Elements is ok but is dated.

If you shoot in Jpeg then your really only looking to crop your photos so just google free photo cropping software.

If your shooting RAW then you really should be looking at the latest version of photoshop/lightroom which is currently version 2015.5 i think. I used to use photoshop all the time but find lightroom much more user friendly and quicker. You can easily swap between the two if you need further editing that lightroom cant do.

I bought the whole package for £8.67 per month which is good value if you do a lot of post processing.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a couple of weeks holiday up north, first week in Beauly after the Loch Ness Etape, then a week of solid hillwalking in Torridon, with some epic views.

I didn't do any "pre-planned" landscape stuff, it was all on the hoof shots whilst walking. I was generally too fucked at nights after walking all day to head out with the tripod etc

These are terrific snaps - I love the rainbow/Torridon one.  Out of interest, do you camp out or stay in hotels/B&Bs?

Cheers

It varies tbh. If I've got my other half with me we'll stay in a self catering cottage for a week. Otherwise it's camps if I intend to kip on or near a mountain, or hostels/bunkhouses.

Torridon was excellent though, we booked out my climbing club's cottage. Worked out at 43 quid each for 7 days [emoji38]
