You can get them on Amazon for a tenner.

Yep.  I'm just following up on that.  It's strange how certain things in the kitchen become your go-to tools.  I have a really sharp knife which my wife would throw out if she was brave enough but it's my must-have.  Somehow we have gathered six tin-openers but one of them is the only one I'll use.

We seem to have 3 of each type of kitchen utensil. For months I was using the tin opener that didn't work properly - why wasn't it thrown out "I won't have the money to replace it" ("You've 3 other ones") - thinking we were just being unfortunate in buying warped tins.

Friday night TV used to be great. Channel 4 had Drop The Dead Donkey, Eurotrash, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Beavis and Butthead and The Word. We've been spoiled with the amount of bongo available on the internet. Back in the day you were doing well with a glimpse of Lolo Ferrari on a Friday night. And the quality of bands that they booked for The Word was excellent, even if the bits in between weren't always the best and Terry Christian was an absolute w**k.

Was Sportsound, before they went to the first bit of Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi (I think). In those days they never told you which game would the commentary game (and even then only the last 10 minutes of the first half and the entire second half - with the little "as we welcome listeners to the World Service" during the second half for some reason) so you'd be listening to see which reporters were at which ground to work out if you were the featured game.
Partick Bus Station.
RE: News Flashes.
First one I remember was back in 1982 and interrupted my Saturday morning viewing. It was about Harrier Jump jets attacking targets on the Falkland Islands.
The programme interrupted was...

Was going to mention Terrahawks - I never really remember the show but do remember (I think) that they used to play Tic-Tac-Toe (Naughts and Crosses, whatever) at the end with 'goodies and baddies'.

Always remember the MFI in Dunfermline for two things - plastic loaves of bread etc in the kitchen sections and the musak they played. Proper "Synthesizer hits of the 80s" stuff.

On that note, Synthesizer hits CDs. Usually with Axel F, the Miami Vice Theme etc.

On the subject of Friday night TV, getting in from the pub around 11pm, cracking open a beer and watching the repeat of TFI Friday was always enjoyable no matter what your views in Chris Evans are.

The forerunner to that, I believe, was The James Whale Radio Show (on tv) and was utter garbage, the odd drunk guest or drunken phone call would liven it up but otherwise was rotten, but it was either that or The Hit Man and Her, which was basically a televised nite club.

Which featured Michaela Strachan, so it's a wid from me.

In the olden days they used to have Hammer House of Horror films intermingled with soft porn like Barbarella. A bit later on they had red triangle films on C4 which were a bit arty but very naughty. All there is now is music stuff on BBC Four which is admittedly great sometimes.

Getting SKY as a young teenager was an eye opener for me, the 10 minute free view, the German tv channel RTL which always seemed to have a scud movie on after 10pm, then we moved to cable and I got to enjoy the pleasures of topless darts.

Smack the Pony on C4 as well.

I remember thinking Sally Phillips was tidy back in the day. In hindsight maybe not.

The loss of the Astra satellite was a sad day in British history, no matter what the leavers say, mon eh random topless frauleins.

Pubescent me would never have been exposed to the delights of German cinema without the Astra satellite. I'm sure we can agree that's a horrible thought, in more ways than one.

I do believe that all of us who were out there in the 90's should agree that the Astra satellite was proper teckle.

I remember the Woolworths in the Wellgate Centre, occasionally nipped in during my lunch break when I was at Abertay.  More often than not it was either the dvd or video game section I looked at.

There was on embarrassing time I bought a 99p bag of sweets, gave the cashier a £1 coin and received unbelievably change of a £10.00 note.

I spent at least 5 minutes arguing that she had given the wrong change but she refused to listen.  A bunch of old grannies in the queue started tut tutting at the delay so I had to leave with the change rather embarrassed.

It was a while before I went back after that.

Watching the Germans dive their way through the UEFA Cup on Sat 1, seeing some quite frankly weird music programmes, and sitting through some Umpapa shite in the hope some soft porn would be on after. There’s my formative years in a nutshell.
