Selkirk FC thread

Sad to see.  Already lost Duns and Kelso in the past few years.

We are going to have a strange situation for the next few years of the bottom few clubs in the LL being weaker than a number of the EoS clubs but it's going to take a long time to balance out with only one relegation spot.

Once the EoS Premier forms next year, you'll get a really good league for that level and you could have some of the relegated clubs struggling massively in the league below.

In England, it's quite common for clubs to voluntary drop down the levels in non-league football.  Could see that happening in the future in Scottish football.  Already happened with Threave.

Whatever happens, hope that Selkirk survive and hopefully things balance out in the next few years and clubs are playing at their natural level and there are fewer massive defeats.

It does highlight though that there should certainly be more relegation places at the bottom of the LL to ensure progressive clubs can make appropriate moves upwards and it also highlights that maybe governance isn't what it could be in the LL.

All well and good having an extra relegation place but in 16-17 when Selkirk finished 15th the highest placed EoS team with a licence was Coldstream in 5th.

Sorry but they have played TWO games in the Lowland League - for them then to be allowed to pull out of that league and then enter into a different league where clubs have already started playing fixtures, albeit cup ties, would be Junior levels of ineptness and corruption from the EOS and LL.

It does highlight though that there should certainly be more relegation places at the bottom of the LL to ensure progressive clubs can make appropriate moves upwards and it also highlights that maybe governance isn't what it could be in the LL.

Selkirks situation has no relevance to promotion or relegation before the vultures start.....

f**k it's been a long time since I've been on here but thought I'd throw in my pennies worth:
1. No chairman
2. No players (Only 5 available for game tomorrow)
3. No manager
4. No money
The crooks that have run the club for the last 7 or 8 years have ruined the club. Spending money like it's going out of fashion and not looking to the future and now look what's happened. Projects like the Majorca Academy etc were an absolute farce. Players travelling up to Selkirk from all over the country whose families paid for them to stay and play were misled. It was all a scam IMO. The former chairman should be hung out to dry for this and I hope he is made to pay for all the false promises that has ultimately cost the club.
Club received a £47k windfall a month or so ago, after a man in the town passed away and left money to all the sports clubs. This went straight into their debts and it hasn't even touched the sides. Absolute joke. No money left at all to invest in the Juniors whose own setup could now be compromised.
A dark dark day for football in Selkirk, a club formed in 1880 and dragged through the gutter by reckless management.

Surely the bank(s) are in some way culpable in all of this. With respect, how can a club the size of Selkirk be servicing debt well in excess of £50k going by above post which clearly comes from a position of knowledge?

2.Fold - re enter EOS next season

3.Move to EOS ( if allowed ) now

3 is a no no, why should the Eos take on an absolute clusterfuck like this on. If it can’t be resolved in the next week,  2 is the only option, gives them time to sort the off field bollocks without the on field daily pressures.

Think if Selkirk fold all other teams get a 5-0 win (bring the goal diff up as EK hit 10 n Gretna 8 ) job done and continue business as usual ,do hope they get sorted out but can’t see much happening soon only a backlog of games

Surely if a team was to come up it would be Threave? That happened when Livingston were punted to League 2.

It's a shame that Selkirk are in this state and as a Shire fan we understand what it's like to have a board that want to run you into the ground. Devasted for your fans.

I hope this isn't the end but possibly doing what Wigtown done and withdraw from the League, playing your cup game and start again in the EoS next season might be the best idea.

If that happens surely the 2 victories for Gretna and EK would be wiped and we have a free team every week.

In my opinion it's about time we expanded the LL to 18 anyway. Relagation still possible for 15th providing that the winners of the 3 EoS conferences and SoS are all licensed.

I get that the LL could and should attempt to assist member clubs in times of trouble but where do you draw the line? A few injuries and suspensions with a big game coming up and can anyone just call out and say they’ve got huge problems and get a postponement?

If they can't get a team together now, I don't see how they could suddenly do it in the EOS. Also, they'd drop straight into the EOS First Division for next season if this happens. Then they are better off going into abeyance now and re-join a strong EOS Premier next season for which they have plenty of time to prepare.

Threave don't want to come up.

Well the above post which you quote states 1) there is no chairman when there is a chairman mentioned in the Southern Reporter article quoted by hibbeejibee and 2) there is no manager when Gordon Rae seems to have been appointed earlier in the week so maybe not as knowledgeable as he claims.

New chairman resigned last night. Became clear once he had looked into the state of the finances that it was pretty much an impossible task.

Gordon Rae had been appointed as interim manager, but ultimately with no chairman there is no club. Game off tomorrow. How on earth do the club expect to attract a chairman, manager and players with the reputation they have now never mind the financial state they are currently in?

Tried to punch above their weight and paid the price. Just hope the Juniors and Selkirk Vics don't get dragged into the mess as well.

Tomorrow's game cancelled.

Their 2 results would be expunged, IIRC.

Cant say i agree with the postponement ,, not fair on other teams

If they go into abeyance then they'd surely have to start in the first division.  Don't see why they'd get into the premier.

They'd probably be seen as a relegated team, meaning they'd go into tier 6 = EOS Premier.
