From the outside it seems the only way that Selkirk have been acting professionally in recent years is the same way Rangers, Dundee, Gretna , Livingston etc have been acting over the years.

Ahem!

I assume you mean the old defunct Gretna.

Not Gretna FC  2008.

After going into administration (again!) and being demoted to League Two, Livingston failed to turn up to play Shire for the opening game of the season, a few years back.

Instead of awarding us a 3-0 win and giving them a points deduction, League chiefs ordered the game to be rearranged. If we'd tried the same thing they'd probably have chucked us out of the league. Fortunately, we won the midweek, rearranged game, so some justice was done, although we didn't get any financial compensation for losses, such as hospitality, lower attendance, stadium hire etc.

Depends who you are, how you are treated.

Licensing was supposed to be about gearing clubs up to operate more professionally. If a club struggles to even field a team because of a complete lack of player interest, they quite simply don't belong at this level and are probably best suited for Borders Amateur.

I think the Border Amateurs is a bit unfair considering the tenure Selkirk have had in the EoS prior to the Lowland League's creation.

They'll probably be bouncing around tier 7/8 when such levels are established

It looks like the Tarff scenario of a small club in a remote area suddenly getting money and using non-local players to chase success only to find the local guys are no longer interested in coming back after the money runs out and they are needed/wanted again. Hopefully it doesn't end like it did for Tarff.

Sad to see.  Already lost Duns and Kelso in the past few years.
We are going to have a strange situation for the next few years of the bottom few clubs in the LL being weaker than a number of the EoS clubs but it's going to take a long time to balance out with only one relegation spot.
Once the EoS Premier forms next year, you'll get a really good league for that level and you could have some of the relegated clubs struggling massively in the league below.
In England, it's quite common for clubs to voluntary drop down the levels in non-league football.  Could see that happening in the future in Scottish football.  Already happened with Threave.
Whatever happens, hope that Selkirk survive and hopefully things balance out in the next few years and clubs are playing at their natural level and there are fewer massive defeats.

About twenty years ago or so Hamilton Accies didn't turn up for a game and were deducted fifteen points which effectively relegated them to the fourth tier

I don't think local guys have played for Selkirk for years. They haven't trained in  the town for years either.

For Tarff I can't easily find a population for Kirkcowan which suggests it's less than a 1,000 but Selkirk is 5,000+. That should mean there's a bit more depth to keep things going long term.

Looking at Selkirk's wikipedia page it notes they withdrew from the EoS for a brief spell in the 80s. So it's not a new experience for them to have this kind of difficulty of getting a team together. If they bounced back then, they can hopefully do so again. Dropping down the leagues will hopefully solve the problem about having a more local spine as those players will likely be more competitive in lower leagues.

Thought Kelty's statement lacked a bit of class

As much as Selkirk imo should have made some type of contact with Kelty, out of good manners, kelty should have kept this   in house and not went public, but then they always seem to want to give you the far end of a fart

So they shouldnt explain what happened to the people spending thousands on hospitality (or most importantly folks considering booking it for later on in the season) or their fans who come week in/out? If the LL is keen to attract people every week as an alternative to spfl clubs then when someone makes an arse of it the clubs have to distance themselves from farce or suffer guilt by association.

Once again Kelty show their real lack of class.

  • Selkirk phone the league to say the game can't be played.
  • The league say "OK, we'll advise Kelty".
  • Kelty go in the huff because they haven't received a grovelling phone call from Selkirk - a club in complete meltdown!
  • Kelty then send out a statement claiming they don't do 'Victim' - and then list a number of points to show them as the victim!

Utter welts

Couple of things to note:

Kelty weren't so sympathetic to Selkirk when they signed Ciaren Chalmers......from SELKIRK!

And they'll be able to recoup their £2k from the £7 they charge to watch their games - when most of the others charge £5 or £6:whistle

I am not sure they had to go into detail on offering buses, when It was quite clear that the problem was lack of players.

A bus they own themselves  BN seem to be getting all high and mighty about Selkirk s fall from grace.

Thousands on hospitality I thought it was aboot £30 a game

Why is it gonnae bother me and fellow ww fans or anyone else at that if we want hospitality later on in the season ?

They have a social club the fans week in week out could've seen a poster in there.

No need for the attack on Selkirk imo.

Looks to me like Selkirk had no intention of playing Kelty on Saturday. They wanted to play the home game to bring in some cash but never had any plans on trying to play Kelty. To leave it til Friday to advise the league was poor show. This is supposed to be the level below the professional leagues, not borders amateurs when you play when you can.

I have already said Selkirk haven’t covered themselves in glory here, some type of correspondence would have taken no time to do. It’s a shite state of affairs, but a better worded statement could have shirley achieved what you’re saying, without damning a club already in crisis

How much you reckon Selkirk made from a Wednesday night game against strollers.....

Think they only had 14 midweek. Some of them were likely the trialists from their open day and some probably decided it's not for them.
