Uefa nations league

So... Germany used this campaign to tinker and to try and rebuild to an extent, knowing that they will qualify in the traditional manner during the official qualifiers. Then when the next Nations League rolls around, they'll have an absolute free-hit in the second tier and another campaign to experiment and rebuild.

Long. Term. Planning. Deutsch-style.

Their eyes are once again firmly on the Euros and the World Cup. Only absolute diddies like Southgate care about actually lifting the Nations League tinpot trophy.

England fielded their least experienced team since 1980 on Wednesday and will have a similarly inexperienced team against Croatia. So your point is absolutely without foundation.

In any case, Germany are transitioning from a team that won the World Cup. England are transitioning from a team that were shite. For England, the Nations League could be a huge confidence boost, a great bonding experience and a platform from which to push on.

Mark my words, lads.

We need to see beyond this short-termism.

The World Cup debacle is exactly why they are doing it, otherwise they'd still be strutting.

I can see them - in the not-too-distant future - adding to their titles of 1954, 1972, 1974, 1980, 1990, 1996, 2014 or at least being runners-up again, like they were in 1966, 1976, 1982, 1986, 2002, 2008.

Just a hunch I guess.
