Old Firm Colts in L2

Recommended Posts

I feared this would happen after the euros. It’s the only reason we haven’t won the euros. It’s all our fault.

what issue could league 2 fans come up with to post about - all day, everyday - on premier league forum? Give these scrotes a taste of this incessant drivel

I’m not surprised by the OF trying to push this over and over again. They are the only ones who will benefit from it.

However, when the fans have said no over and over again, it is beyond a joke that the other 40 clubs even agree to listen to their proposals. We don’t want it, under any circumstances.

This idea is harder to get to f**k than Covid.

Us lower league luddites clearly to blame for Scotland spending Tuesday night hoofing the ball into the sun, if only we'd welcomed the OF's kids into our league years ago we'd be getting ready for a last 16 tie against the Germans. Who we'd inevitably pump due to some of our players having spent a couple of seasons getting hoofed into the sun by lower league luddites.

If we're serious about improving Scottish footballers then let's try investing in coaches and safe, accessible (free), facilities, give that 20 years or so and see where we stand.

If the OF are serious about producing players for their first teams then they should stop paying people like Shane Duffy 44k per week and trust their youths to play the odd first team game. All football clubs have to balance immediate success and future success - the OF have enough advantages, they don't need another one.

Doesn't really need said but I won't be paying money to watch my team in any league game involving a colts team.

Can't see anyone gaining anything from the Colts, the better players probably won't get into the OF first team squads anytime soon.  Guessing some of the spfl clubs can be bought with their filthy lucre, everything has a price eh. Pointless being in spfl2 as i believe  that the colts can't be promoted ?  Never known an issue drag on for so long, still being given airtime. In the trash it goes.

Why don't they show they are serious about youth development and first propose widescale reforms in youth football to benefit the game as a whole and not just the 2 of them? Oh wait, that's not actually what it's about for them...

5 seasons with each club paying £290K to the other teams. Can't get promoted beyond League 1.

What an utter load of shite. Nothing about this is good and it's a disgrace that they're trying to take advantage of clubs struggling due to the pandemic.

It won't get voted through but FFS stop trying. They've not even given the Lowland League trial a go to see if the players actually enjoy it.

Is this money they're putting in this time, or shaving off the prize money from 1st & 2nd in the Premiership like the last attempt?

I, for one, am shocked that cheaply buying off the Lowland League clubs wasn't enough for them and they already want more once their season is up.

The door should never have been opened to the OF colts. Thanks a whole lot, Lowland League, for engaging them in this nonsense.

What happens if the Colt teams do pish in the Lowland League and this vote goes through? Say East Kilbride win the league but lose the play off final. But Rangers and Celtic colts don't damage sporting integrity by moving up a league?

Unfortunately Andy this is how Scottish football works, 2 teams that “don’t want to be associated with each other” (yet constantly want the same things 🙄 ) demand something that’s only good for them.  Everyone tells them to f**k off, they then get the Scottish media to constantly back it as they’re all linked to one or the other club until clubs fold and they get their way.  It’s why our league is the most uncompetitive in Europe despite having relatively good attendances through the divisions. This has dragged on as supporters are refusing to budge on it and like 2012 trying to shoehorn Sevco in are making it very clear to their clubs that they won’t accept it. The clubs would probably roll over for a small bribe and a friendly game otherwise.  Social media has given fans the real power to organise and threaten boycotts if their club just roll over these days.

From The Athletic:

Quote

The most significant part of their proposal is a phased plan to transition from the current league structure of 12-10-10-10 to a 12-12-12-12 model. It would increase the number of clubs from 42 to 48 and be achieved by adding two B teams, two Highland League teams and two Lowland League teams over a three-year period (season 2024/25).

To make it happen there would be no relegation from League Two for the next three years, which the paper says will help lessen the financial impact of the pandemic, while the top two teams in League One would be automatically promoted next season and the top two teams in League Two would be automatically promoted the next two years to create space for the new clubs joining the leagues.

Two B teams would then be added into League Two to form a 12-12-10-10 structure at the start of the 2022/23 season. The winners of the Highland and Lowland Leagues would then be added to League Two for the 2023/24 season and again the following season to provide the numbers needed to form the 12-12-12-12 set-up for 2024/25 season.

There would be the opportunity for additional B teams to be added to the Highland and Lowland leagues as the champions moved into League Two.

Increasing the size of the divisions would soften the blow of relegation and for the team relegated from League Two there would be a parachute payment for team relegated. If the SPFL side won the play-off however the sum would split equally between Highland & Lowland League winners.

This is being claimed on another forum:

Apparently the bribe is £290k per club for 5 seasons and not being able to go further than L1.
The Lowland League really sold themselves short with the £25k per club.

If they can't get it through with that sort of financial inducement plus two seasons with no relegation, hopefully this will finally be the end of the matter for a few years.

A few years? We can't wait that long.  Qatar WC is in year or so.  Although we can hope those Colts competing in forthcoming LL season will progress quickly into superstars.

You've just scored the winner in the World Cup final for Scotland, tell me how does it feel? Well, it all began when I got launched into an advertising hoarding playing against Caledonian Braves...

I presume that is not £290,000 for each of five seasons? ie £1,450,000 but rather £290,000 spread over five seasons
