Old Firm Colts in L2

Recommended Posts

The trapdoor watch thread was for keeping an eye on the standings/fixtures etc. in League 2, Lowland and Highland but it got completely derailed this season by all the chat about the Colts. There is this thread about the Colts entering the league setup.

No this is about Colts in L2 not Colts in L3 - a crucial distinction

Surprised this thread's still going, but why is Cowden Cowden (still) so obsessed with Colt teams? I literally don't think I've ever seen him post about anything else.

Edit: Cowboy, sorry.

Championship clubs could scupper plans for the introduction of a fifth division after being told Rangers and Celtic “colt” teams would be allowed to be promoted as far as the second tier

Despite any launch being 18 months away, the plan to allow colt teams to be promoted three levels has caused alarm at a number of Championship clubs who would be left fearing for their own survival in the second tier. One club director said: “Championship clubs had not been paying too much attention to the proposal until details of the lack of a promotion cap were leaked. That has not gone done well and they now want involved in the talks.”

Not telling Championship clubs because they know they'd vote against the plans is probably the most unsurprising thing I've heard. They might as well just schedule a meeting inviting teams who do agree with the plans and have a vote to decide it at that.

The fans are saying no. The clubs are saying no. European fans are warning us about the consequences, and still nobody can provide evidence of it actually being the reason Croatia England Belgium France are better than us.

Into. The. Sea.

The Atlantic League might take them.

The conversion rate of youth players to effective senior squad players is a single percent figure.
The main reason cited is inability to compete physically or in terms of 'course football' awareness with experienced pro's. Even ones that show promise after they are too old for 20's, get practically no game time from the bench, and struggle.

All things we all know (and agree on, I hope)

Now that 20's has been canned, and young players play in a reserve league, I don't see the point of a league 5, as the healthy mixing of youth and experience is taking place, and outcomes of that (in terms of youth development to 1st team) should be analysed before a plan B is considered.

It's a load of bollox IMHO, the kids with talent and the right attitude is probably a single percent figure, and with cosseted children and the draw of x-box and 'better things to do' than focus on their skills and personal physical development, reserve league or a league 5 won't change anything. It won't be as attractive as the couch or the pub when the going gets tough.

Now, let's talk about the SFA youth coach development system, and creating a youth football proposition that will build a desire, beyond x-box, to be a fitba player.....

Age sides and reserves exist to provide the one or two with genuine potential with team mates. The rest will find their level downwards. None of these proposals will significantly alter that as talent (and having the wherewithall to make the most of it) is IMO nature more than nurture. A player that is born a grafter will make more of limited talent than a born-lazy but slightly more gifted player. Better training and coaching will help players make the most of what they have but it won't turn the donkey into a racehorse.

Creating an entire new league, which the cheeks will compete in once, twice maximum as a back door into League Two....

f**k me. If this gets further on than doing them the courtesy of a meeting to tell them to ram it then Scottish Football is the most spineless collective ever seen.

FTOF. FTC.

Given the fact that the vast majority of Posters on here would gladly punt both Celtic and Rangers* into the sea, then it would make no sense whatsoever if it were suggested that their Colts be punted anywhere other that the sea.

FTOF and their Colts.

That isn't even up for debate given the shenanigans of completely rewriting their own rules 6/7 years ago!

True but this would be some next level stuff. Creating a league below the ones they already give zero fucks about for the sole purpose of a side door for the arse cheels would be mega minter.

Presumably those that spout the "too many teams" arguement are on board?

Budge is one isnt she?

She'll suck the OF cock just like she and all the others are told to.

I know this thread starts with 'Old Firm', but could we take off the Anti-OF Seethe goggles.

What about thinking about what would be good for OUR young players, rather than fixating on countering what the OF may or may not be up to.
Lol.

With evidence and sources, talk us through that. We would all like to hear more.
