Old Firm Colts in L2

Recommended Posts

Can’t believe they’re still on about this pish idea, is it just keep bringing it up until everyone caves in? As for having Colt teams if they both f**k off to another league, that can definitely get in the sea. Scottish football will be fine without the Blue and Green pound there’s enough interest in other clubs throughout the pyramid to have a competitive league. Imagine having a league where the press is more interested in two Colt teams than the other 40! Our Championship has better attendances than many leagues across Europe, the SPFL will cut its cloth accordingly and carry on. It wouldn’t surprise me if more fans went to see their local teams if the league was competitive again without the cheeks. Imagine Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell etc regularly competing for trophies instead of just making up the numbers in a 1.5 horse race.

Rangers and Celtic will once again propose their 'B' sides join the SPFL, with plans for them to play in an expanded 16-team League Two being discussed (Scottish Daily Mail).

"Celtic icon Shane Duffy has backed calls for Old Firm sides to be allowed B teams in the lower leagues"

How many times do we have to kick this into the sea? Honest. To. God.

No surprise to see the OF sides trying to take advantage of a time when League Two clubs will be struggling financially either.

The article basically says it won't pass. Seems a bit pointless.

My understanding was that top-flight sides were preferring to push ahead with the idea of "partnership clubs" or whatever the idea was called instead.

You can see the cogs in the brain working to produce this idea: it staves off a permanent exit from the national league for Albion, Brechin etc. for a few years while letting 'the Colts' slither in.

This needs to be booted out entirely, not least given that the entry point for any other shitey Glasgow club is now at tier 8 or something of the pyramid.

If this monstrosity ever does go ahead, I think it's only fair that all the wealthy Glasgow clubs can field a Colt team in League Two. The idea of QP reserves bodying Clyde could sway me on this issue.

A major argument of those supporting this unflushable shite of an idea is that it would help develop Scottish players.
4 days ago one of the sides producing the turd fielded one Scot in their fifteen used, the other five in 16 utilised, four of whom were replaced and the other coming on as substitute.
Exactly, now imagine how many would be in the side were they offered the character building opportunity of a cold Tuesday night in Elgin instead of a holiday in the Arabian sun.

Just your cogs working as usual.
