Airdrie v Stenny

Recommended Posts

Was Hutton playing? If so, Airdrie technically had 9 football players of the park.

Hutton played and for the first 20 minutes was part of a midfield/forward line up which looked like it would dominate the game. And then we fell apart which was by no means Hutton's fault. There were many worse than him not helped by leaving ourselves wide open playing 342 and chasing the game.

Just watched the "highlights". Confirmed what I thought at the time. Boateng's second booking was hardly even a foul.

However, that doesn't alter the fact that we got humped. Defence was terrible, especially the goalie. Some hard work required to recover the confidence which had been building up. We'll probably get hammered next week if we can raise a team! Hope we can strengthen the squad in Janurary.

On the bright side we don't look likely to be fighting relegation for once!

Highlights back up a few thoughts and dispel others.

Russell was very harshly done by at 0-0,  looked the same as the foul Boateng got sent off for.

Boateng got 2 justifable yellows IMO and the striker's reaction should've got a yellow too.   Other teams are singling him out both to dissect him and wind him up.  He's absolutely done.  The first foul/yellow was a carbon copy of another 4 or 5 freekicks/pens he's conceded in or around the box lately.

The 1st 2 goals are just a catalogue of errors.   At 1st Boateng should be touch tight to that striker and not allowing him that 2nd touch.   McIntosh is marking space as Brown is or should be covering the winger.  No modfielder follows the run.  Gorman could've cleared with his right but sliced it.  McDonald lost the runner who tapped in.

The 2nd goal was really poor organisation.  McDonald let the wide man go unchallenged despite Conroy telling him to pick that man up.   Should Rohan have collected the cross ball?  From the initial freekick Boateng was left marking 2 men and neither he nor Hutton followed either runner who got to the back post unchallenged.

The 3rd goal was simply from a free kick  conceded from a simple long ball that Boateng couldn't deal with.

Wilson has to earn his money and prove his credentials this week.  Analysing the footage will be his 1st task.

If the Ryan rumour is true, and if Russell is out then we're in deep shit next week especially if Stewart isn't back.

I still don't think the ref helped us yesterday but all of those issues were our own doing.

Think the second booking was a little harsh. He was a ticking time bomb anyway.

Catalogue of errors at some of those goals. Felt Rohan went down in installments fort their third. He had a bad day.

I'm quite prepared to give Rohan a bit of rope mate.   The boy has just turned 19 and has no goalie coach just now.   we have 16, 17 and 19 y/o keepers and no specialist coach for them!

Watching the Boateng second card again I am not sure he did not head the ball first before taking the player down with momentum. The Ref was at least 60 yards away but according to Mark Wilson it was said by the Assistant Ref that it was a goal scoring scenario. Is that not a Red card? Given that the defending was really poor at all the goals.Next week should be interesting with so many enforced changes. I don't think I have seen a win at Livingston and a draw would be fine!

Very enjoyable highlights but I can't quite tell if Stenhousemuir were good or Airdrieonians were just awful. They certainly looked as though they'd chucked it towards the end of the game - the fifth goal was some of the laziest defending I've seen in a long time. Still, you can only beat what's in front of you and Stenny gave an excellent go of it.

Whether or not this is the springboard to success is another matter but this was probably the best we've played all season.

I did get my eyes tested last week but I think DBM may have been unfair on MacDonald at the second goal as I am sure it is Conroy who is out on the edge of the box as the No 5 makes that rehearsed run; MacDonald wearing our 5 is the next guy in. It makes little odds as they were all day dreaming and pushing out against a free kick which never came as they expected.

If I am wrong I apologise but the character involved is irrelevant,  it's the general all round utter lack of organisation.    The runner allowed to go,  the two big guys allowed to meander unopposed to our back post...  in recent weeks we've had numerous short corners where we don't pick up the runner...

Hopefully Wilson picks up on it

I agree with DBM on the general lack of organization.

The 1st goal looks even worse from our POV,  Boateng's failure to deal with the throw in and McDonald's pathetic clearance in first place...   just f'n clear your lines lads!

2nd goal we can see clearer.   My 1st gripe is Brown's little boy lost meandering.  He shouldve been back onto the player wide on their left and let McIntosh come in centrally.   Where did Boateng and Hutton disappear to?  Hutton is last seen squatting at the edge of our area hiding his red neck!

And the more I see Boateng's challenge for the red the more obvious the foul was.  He just clumsily barges the striker.

The thing is though that the mistakes are workaable on the training ground.   players dont know who they're marking or picking up.

It should actually be reasonably easy for Wilson to sort out these things.   The number of inexperienced players shows.
