NorthernLights
This feels like an opportunistic move by Westminster to win some points with the Brit-Nat/pro-military types. Military personnel based in Scotland compensated for tax rises

May I refer you to Martin Lewis's Income Tax Calculator In tax year 2017/18, a taxpayer earning £27,543 in Scotland would pay £3,137 income tax & £2,325 NI over the course of the year. That's a total tax take of £5,462 In tax year 2018/19, the same Scottish taxpayer, earning the same wage, would pay £3,152 income tax & £2,294 NI over the course of the year. That's a total tax take of £5446. The tax taken in 2018/19 is £16 less than the tax taken in 2017/18. Accordingly, you're talking sh*te, as usual. Why don't you do some elementary research before posting your dribbling streams of pish?

According to my figures the £27.5k is the point where a Scottish based tax payer pays more than his/her counterpart elsewhere in the U.K. In that respect the table shown earlier is not accurate. Philyerpants comment related to 'paying more tax than before'. He made no reference to counterparts elsewhere in the UK. On a salary of £27543, a Scottish taxpayer would pay around £15 per year more in taxes than a rUK taxpayer. However, the average rUK citizen recieves 20 prescription items per year (source). At £8.80 per item, if the rUK citizen takes up 2 prescriptions, his tiny tax advantage is more than wiped out.

The table I’m referring to is the one that said someone earning £30k would pay no more tax in Scotland than in England; that is wrong. I agree that other issues are not being taken into account so to an extent we’re comparing apples to oranges.

I'm referring to the table quoted by Philyerpants in his post further up this page i.e. the post that I originally responded to. I have no idea which table you are referring to. lichtgilphead
Aye, like I said, that table compares the difference in tax paid (in Scotland) in 2017/18 with tax paid (in Scotland) in 2018/19 by various ranks in the Army. I've made no claim otherwise.
