Advertising Update

Recommended Posts

Not only is the advert in the middle three or four inches wide across the bottom of a laptop screen, but there appears to be a whole section of the page from side to side now unusable.

There is a wee 'X' to close that doesn't work, and when multiquoting, the grey box saying "Quote 3 posts" or whatever is apparently behind some evil forcefield so it cannot be accessed.

Thumbs (2) down.

Incredibly intrusive ads covering the entire bottom portion of the screen every single time a new page loads. Can’t even click the X to close them because it’s behind the scroll bar. Really ruining the forum experience.

And believe it or not, but there’s a ‘you have a new notification’ banner underneath the bottom ad on my mobile:

Sort it out @Div eh?

Swatch one this morning covering most of the screen with a picture of a watch, there is no x to close it, you can't click anything else on the screen and bizarrely you can't even click on the advert to go to the swatch website either!

There's a new ad unit at the bottom of the page that will run throughout December. Busiest time of year unsurprisingly.

Shouldn't be getting in the way of anything else, and there should be no pop-ups so if there are please let me know what the ad is and I will look into it.

All the testing I've done on the new unit have been absolutely fine. What's the issue?

Any chance of more of a response than this?

Here’s an ad blocking all notifications at the bottom of the page. Tested, absolutely fine, no issue.

I get that the website has to be funded somehow but it isn't a one way street.  A website doesn't offer much if it doesn't have any users.

If you click the cross on that advert it should close and disappear?

But then it pops up again if you go on to a different page.  So very frequently on a site like this.  Plus, on a mobile, it's quite difficult to aim correctly at the little cross without clicking on the ad itself, and then being redirected somewhere.  It's not worth trying to click it off.

Fair enough mate. As I say, it's really just been a run for December for that Ad Unit as unsurprisingly it's the busiest time of the year for the ads.

It will come off in January.
