Um, East Kilbride are going to win it? :P

Oh, & Preston are toast.

Still amazed how well Dalbeattie are doing, if they can keep this up until the season's end I will be very surprised.

Depends on how EK react to their long winning run coming to an end. Shire are 2 games behind and if they win both would be 8 behind with both sides still to play each other, which would still need EK to lose another 2 and Shire to win everything.

In terms of the games-in-hand... having a look at the table and the schedule, unless the weather intervenes things will largely have shaken themselves out by the Christmas break. At the top, all of the current top 6 will have played 17 games (except Dalbeattie on 19); plus at the bottom, all of the current bottom 6 will have played 17 or 18 games (except Hawick on 16).

For example East Stirlingshire currently have 2 games in hand on EK, but have league games the next 2 Saturdays while EK are involved in cup-ties.

Table at halfway point last season is at the link below. Interestingly, the biggest fallers between then and season's end were Dalbeattie (dropped from 6th to 9th) and Selkirk (dropped from 9th to 12th); the biggest climbers were BSC Glasgow (rose from 10th to 6th) and Edinburgh University (rose from 11th to 7th)... All other clubs moved a maximum of 2 places up or down and indeed only Spartans (rose 2) EK (dropped 2) and Gretna (dropped 2) moved more than a single place up or down... However, only Edinburgh City and Threave actually finished in the same place they'd occupied at halfway - top 'n bottom respectively - so it indicates there is plenty to play for.

What do you get for finishing 2nd 3rd or 4th? I ask because of the line between 4th and 5th place?

Champions League ... :P

Last year it got you into the Irn Bru Challenge Cup.

Last season, clubs finishing in the top 4 got to enter this season's SPFL Challenge Cup, so it was my attempt at putting in a line rather like that for qualifying for Europe in top levels. I suppose there is always a chance that SPFL will change the cup format and entry... there was a lot of controversy about the 'B' teams and crowds in their games were generally dire - and while there was less controversy over the Irish and Welsh top two, only TNS have won a tie.

However, if clubs think they can't win the league they'll still be aiming to reach the top 4 in expectation of entering.

It's also worth finishing as runner-up as it gets you a bye into Scottish Cup R2 - but that's more minor in the grand scheme of things.
