Care to explain? How does a postponed game and far eastern betting syndicate relate?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/426148.stm

it was a joke based on the fact that there were a number of games in England called off due to floodlight failure a few years ago and a number of bets had been placed in the far east on the likelihood of the games being postponed.

In Hawick's case the Far Eastern betting syndicate in question was one Mr Heed T. Baa of Berwickshire... :P

It was unfortunate.the club decided to change the Bulbs whilst being changed the winch to bring them down broke leaving the flood lights hanging over the park.

would have made more sense to do it early in the week just incase there was issues but that's hindsight now.

A year or so ago we had a similar issue but due to a gale. We secured the floodlight but they were still at a precarious angle. The three officials turned up for the pre-match inspection and one of the assistants drew the ref's attention to the precarious angle of the floodlight posts. I said "it's alright son as long as you're not the near side linesman," I saw the look on his face and said , "well as long as you're nippy!"
