The Official Former President Trump thread

Kind of hoping that Pence asks "And why did you insist on these plastic screens between us when we're 20 yards apart?",  and Harris replies "I thought your wife insisted. It's a matter of trust Mike, and you don't have it."

Trump went on an incredible Tweet storm yesterday where he seemed to reject, call for and then reject a bill for stimulus checks to be agreed.

Then, there was this...

Ultimately the truth is utterly irrelevant to Trump. If he tweets it, its fact to him. If he disagrees it's "FAKE NEWS".

If that happens the first two years are crucial. Obama fucked it by trying to do what he was good at in Chicago, bringing opposites together to get things done. Trying to get consensus in Washington is pointless, you have to use whatever window you have in Congress to the max, by the time he learnt the lesson the Republicans controlled the Senate and he was a lame duck, even if what he proposed was agreed with by most of the Republicans, they blocked everything.

The two key indicators will be what they intend to do about the filibuster and access to voting. If they don't immediately signal reforms to both then they're clearly just at it again and deserve to lose to Tucker, the My Pillow Guy, The Rock or whoever runs against them in 2024.

Changing the rules can bring short term benefits but a fucking nightmare in the future. Trump's been raging at McConnell for not changing the rules on stuff like Obamacare etc, but he refused as it would be a gift to a future Democrat led Senate. Access to voting should be the first thing they sort though.

More recently, an effort to filibuster President Donald Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the seat left vacant by Antonin Scalia's death was effective, if not successful. Unlike the Fortas filibuster, however, only Democratic Senators voted against cloture on the Gorsuch nomination, citing his perceived conservative judicial philosophy, and the Republican leadership's prior refusal to take up President Barack Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy.[13][14] The Republican majority responded by changing the rules to allow for filibusters of Supreme Court nominations to be broken with only 51 votes rather than 60. The precedent for this action had been set in November 2013, when the Democrats, who then held the majority, changed the rules, lowering the threshold for advancing nominations to lower court and executive branch positions from 60 votes to a simple majority, but explicitly excluded Supreme Court nominations from the change.[15][16]

P.S. On second thoughts, as the Republicans have thrown away all the rules of precedent etc for normal governance, the Dems might as well accept the days of Mr Smith Goes to Washington are well gone, increase the Supreme Court to 16 and do what the f**k they want for 2 years, and then abolish elections.

I was chuckling away watching this.

Really well done and exactly like the sort of things Trump would say.

Quality satire.

But now i think it might be real.

I can't tell anymore

The Dems have been fucked by voter suppression and debate floor shenanigans so if they're serious about actually helping their base they'll realise even an occasional successful filibuster of their own doesn't really level the score on that front. They always whine about civility and decorum but you would hope some of them realise, as you say, that those days are gone if they ever actually existed and start reducing the minority party to an actual minority.

Kamala missing an open goal with the first question, looks nervous.

P.S. She's fucking blowing it, even I'm beginning to edge towards that enormous creep Pence.

P.P.S. She's spent too much time rehearsing, can only spit out practiced lines looking a bit manic.. Pence just knows how to spout his with a calm voice.
