Turnout hasn't broken, or even come close to, 70% since 1900. It’s hard to find sympathy for a country where so many people don’t vote. On an individual level there will be reasons this happens and there are documented examples of officials making it difficult for minority groups to register. Nonetheless voting is a lot easier and more productive than protesting and these numbers could entirely change the political landscape of the USA.
