In some states Biden out polled Sanders by almost 9 to 1 amongst black voters. Biden will win the nomination because a lot of black voters effectively see him as an Obama endorsed candidate.

It's completely arse backwards as he was the driving force behind the crime bill in the early 90s which militarised the police and forced judges to award harsh sentences which was a disaster for African American communities.

All over the world there seems to be a disconnect between legislative events and electoral choices.

Why can't the EU?

Because the Germans demand fiscal discipline and it will be politically impossible to bail out large corporations while also continuing to impose strict austerity on Eurozone citizens.

They will probably try to help them through the secret corporate bond buying program but that won't be enough if this goes on for a while.

Aye. Some people think that the only way to make the dumb proles wake up and vote for a pristine Socialist candidate is 4 more years of the same.

Like the UK election...

So Trump has banned travel from the Schengen.

Presumably airlines will be going down the shitter. The US government can bail out their's no problem. The EU not so much.

It is the world's misfortune that at a time of crisis the fuckwit is still in place.  And the edict isn't even coherent; no nationals from the Schengen countries will be admitted to the US but American nationals will - presumably they'll have tossed their virus strains into the Atlantic on the flight over.

However, the US is damn right to be fearful as it has no welfare system to speak of, and millions of poor folk who can't afford to access to healthcare, medicines or insurance.  Trump won't wish to discuss this reality, he is too busy spreading falsehoods about the readiness of the nation.

The EU and European governments, including the UK, heavily subsidise Airbus to the tune of Billions which pissed Daft Donnie and Boeing off, so if the airlines hit rock bottom there is no doubt the EU will step in.

The UK gov threw money at Flybe foolishly as it turned out, and I'm sure that the EU and UK still don't tax aviation fuel, though that might have been cut.

Can't the Europeans catch a flight to Heathrow from their own country, if they must travel, and then transit to say a BA American bound flight?

They can't ban US citizens from the USA it would be illegal as well as crazily unpopular.

The US has a welfare system and unemployment insurance, they operate a two tier tax system where you pay a state and a federal tax, the federal goverment pays a third of the welfare across the board to assist each individual state in welfare payments.

Let me clear another misnomer, it is quoted so many times that if you have a serious accident and have no insurance then you die, that is not the case, the city will pick up the bill to get you back to a healthy condition, what they will not pay for is rehab or any further treatment.

Americans also have a more rigorous tax system than ours, US citizens working overseas still pay full American taxes unless they are permanently based in any country but even then they still have to fill out tax forms.

Consider many UK citizens living in Spain for example who do not pay UK tax and in many cases not even Spanish tax.

or, as I seen this morning, it may be possible to come into the UK on Eurostar or Ferry from Europe as passports are not stamped and fly out of a UK airport.

On the election I noticed quite a few Americans saying they would get behind Biden just to get Trump out - even though they wanted Sanders. Also, is there any benefit long term (and to try and group the Dems) to try and get someone like Warren as VP?

Some states have an income tax, some don't. Illinois does, Florida doesn't. Some cities have a municipality tax also; NYC and Philly do, and Chicago has been examining it, although Mayor Lightfoot isn't in favor. It's all going to be a big mess.

I think you're being a bit generous there - there are currently millions of Americans who have little by way of a financial or social care safety net and it's fanciful to suggest that will alter in the face of a pandemic. Take a read at 'Deep South' by Paul Theroux and you'll get an idea of the numbers involved.
