The Official Former President Trump thread

In other news, unsurprisingly the Venezuela adventure has not gone to plan and looks like it will descend into a shambles.

President Trump, asked Wednesday if he had a Plan B if Mr. Maduro remained in power, responded: “I always have a Plan B, and C, and D, and E and F. I have great flexibility. I probably have more flexibility than any man who’s ever been in this office.”

Greenwald's choice Tulsi isn't going to be the next Democratic candidate.  She's also hardly anti-war.  She's just anti-American war.   Her campaign, rightly or wrongly, has been doomed from the get-go.

Bernie alienates the Democratic right.  He's a non runner, or should be.  He's also not a Democrat.    The problem the Democrats face is that the further they move to the left (as many of us would want, I suspect), they alienate more.   Whereas, when the Republicans push to the right as was the case with Tangoman, the traditional GOP (no pinkos themselves) are less likely to abandon ship.  The Democrat party and the Republican party do not function in the same way, and that's true on multiple levels.  The moment the Democrats mention socialised healthcare (or whatever they want to call it), the lifeboats are manned.

Edit: sorry, quoted the wrong post and can't be arsed changing it.

Bernie consistently polls as the most popular politician in the US. If he's a non-runner against Trump, after the hugely unpopular Clinton won the popular vote against him, then the Democrats should give up and go home.

Gabbard's main message is to end the foreign adventurism wars and stop arming terrorist groups. To any normal person this should be positive, but in the backwards world of corporate-owned media this is somehow used to attack her. For this reason I agree she was doomed from the start.

Bernie would become 80 years old in the first year of his Presidency.

She has a worrying Trump like trend of admiring murderous dictators like Sisi in Egypt and religious right wing Nationalists like Modi in India. And while she's against sending American troops abroad, she's gung ho about using drones, bombers and special forces.

Tulsi Gabbard Is Not Your Friend

^^^^ Thinks it’s a binary choice.

A Green candidate isn't going to be taking votes off Trump. Jill Stein won Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania for him.

Harris loves locking people up.

Biden will get me too’d and loved drafting the legislation that allowed Harris to lock people up.

Tulsi seems mental in an interesting way it would be fun to see her in the debates.

Bernie’s old but clearly has the best politics and Medicare For All seems incredibly popular amongst the population.

Klobucher can’t get anyone to run her campaign because of the rumours about her treatment of her staff, I think?

Amber Frost is right. It’s still Bernie.

They should have Ilhan Omar run after the way she slaughtered Elliot Abrams for being a murderous psychopath.

Yeah but none of that’s relevant. You suggested that the only option was between Trump and a centrist.

I was responding to this.

Harris and O'Rourke are the bookies favourites, both of whom to me look like beige centrists policy-wise but with good PR.

Joe Biden 3rd favourite, good grief. More of the same is the last thing the Democrats need.

Tulsi Gabbard would be my pick but her anti-war stance all but rules her out. If it's not Tulsi or Bernie I'd vote Green.

The absolute seethe that Omar would cause (gasp, a Muslim, a real life non-pretendy Muslim like Barry) would make that a joyous day.

Do you think it’s a binary choice between Trump and a centrist?
A liberal candidate for the Democrats has usually struggled - remember how Mondale was turned in to a Commy by the US media?

In fact it's now a given that one of the slate has to be a Southern Democrat for them to have a chance - that's why I wouldn't be surprised to see O'Rourke as the VP nominee for the Democrats.

I think the US is ready for something different.  Not the way they were in 2016 when Bernie could have one but an anti-Trump.

.

Yeah, I can definitely see the US media turning on the Democrat candidate right enough...

Democrats could put up a wooden stick and 95% of the media would back them heavily.
