The Official Former President Trump thread

It looks like Trump is about to sack the deputy attorney general, Rob Rosenstein, who is responsible for overseeing the Mueller investigation. It's been initially reported that he was offering his resignation but this has been contradicted elsewhere and it has been standard practice for the administration to report 'resignations' to try and muddy the waters.

The implications of this are that the Republican-held US Senate could potentially approve a Trump-backed replacement before the midterms meaning that Mueller's special counsel investigation can be terminated. This would throw up historical parallels with Richard Nixon's firing of his special prosecutor a year before he'd leave office.

The second half of his one term Presidency will be overshadowed by the impeachment process.  Likely previously, a cert if the Mueller investigation is terminated.

Seems that the press either jumped the gun or things have changed as he's still in his post and set to meet Trump on Thursday in person.

The White House is leaking against Rosenstein (the false story about him joking about a wire is now being denied by Pompeo), and undermining his position, trying to get him to resign (while at the same time backing up their own "fake news" agenda).  Just as they did with Sessions.  They're now meeting on Thursday - the day of the testimony which more than likely will put an end to Kavanaugh, or at the very least make the GOP look very, very ugly.  Rosenstein will most likely not be fired on Thursday, but Trumpy boy will make some kind of hysterical threat against the DOJ.

I'd imagine Trump will be full guns blazing later today on the Fake News front.

Is there any ‘proof’ (as much as you can get in these things) or even informed opinions hinting at that being the case? As soon as I saw the Roosentein story I thought it was a bit of a plant, but by the other side - to goad Trump into firing Roosentein and thus providing a Saturday Night Massacre parallel ahead of the midterms.

It's form for him to be out of town when someone gets fired, apparently he's squeamish about it despite his last job. Probably hoped Kelly or someone could convince him to resign today while he was in New York, but Rosenstein rightly said GTF. On another matter, tomorrow's meeting at the UN could be standout viewing, I pray it doesn't go as he intends. He a master at manipulating grandstands, but hopefully he'll get a serious bit of recoil.

Where did Pompeo say this?

As far as I can see even Rosenstein hasn't denied the wire comment.

Called the whole story ridiculous.  It's a strange kind of defence of Rosenstein, but that's precisely what it is.

So nothing he said absolutely nothing about Rosenstein.

Reading comprehension is often an issue on here.

Rosenstein was a Trump appointee and would have dealt with Pompeo on a frequent basis as CIA Director. He hadn't heard anything.
