The Official Former President Trump thread

A leaked draft majority opinion suggests the US Supreme Court might be about to overturn Roe v Wade setting back women’s reproductive rights by decades.  Apparently a leak from the court is virtually unheard off.

The fact that a complete no-mark like Trump can leave a legacy so devastating due to his court appointments shows how fucked up politics in the US is.

If the opinion polls are correct, and only 30% of the electorate support restrictions of this level, then there is going to be a huge push back.

Using the term 'reproductive rights' is disingenuous considering reproduction has already taken place before the abortion goes ahead.

If Roe v Wade is overturned then it'll not just be a joyous day, but a day of liberation for the hundreds of thousands of innocent and vulnerable human lives ended in the US every year.

Things are undoubtedly going in the right direction over there.

I am sure I had this same argument with one of your previous aliases.

Not really, it’ll just mean Chicago gets abortion tourism from Indiana and Iowa in addition to what we’re already getting from Texas and Oklahoma.

The troll is sucking people in hook line and sinker rendering the threads on this forum a joke.  Said people should know better.

Instead of discussing one the key issues in domestic US politics people are falling over themselves to rise to the bait.

I certainly don’t advocate wasting a whole lot of time on him, but the problem with letting halfwits drool nonsense uncorrected is other halfwits feel empowered by it and before long you’re up to your nipples in saliva. It’s kinda pertinent given the thread we’re currently in.

I think there's a delicate balance to be struck between not giving these twats the attention they clearly need and not letting nonsense go unchallenged.

Sometimes, though, it's hard to resist a childish insult.

I'd probably be more sympathetic to the conservative view on abortions if they actually gave a shit about the child after the birth.

They clearly don't though, so it's relatively easy to mark them down as the reactionary roasters that they are.

The Democrats have the Presidency and control both houses. It's very simple for them to negate the court ruling by putting forward legislation that codifies the right to an abortion into federal law.

Obama and Biden both promised to do this during their Presidential campaigns.

Some will still cross state lines for abortions, sadly, but pro-life laws still reduce abortions in the long run.

They don't. The only reduction is in the proportion of women who survive them.

They can put it forward but it wouldn't pass, not with the mid terms coming up.

Although this will have certainly done GOP chances for said midterms no good. Roe v Wade was the golden goose that kept a lot of lunatics going to the ballot box.

They can't simultaneously say Roe being overturned is a catastrophe and also that they can't do anything about Manchin. They need to exert maximum pressure on him and Sinema.

They won't but because it's all a pantomine to convince naive voters that they need just to vote a bit harder. Sinema flipped to the right as soon as the Dems won enough seats to negate Manchin, they will always arrange it so the promised land of the policies they actually run on is just slightly out of reach.

The Supreme Court seems to be saying it has to either be settled in Congress or at state level. So everyone who cares about this issue should be more motivated to vote....

The catch being that only really works if the person you can vote for will actually do what you want them to. That's where the GOP has an advantage.

They still needed 10 Republicans onside, that would be electoral suicide for them, in the primaries anyway.
