If he does that, won't the next Republican President just do the same?

Maybe, but the time for thinking that there's a bottom that the GOP can hit is long gone. If we end up with a Supreme Court of 153 by 2035 then so be it.

The U.S. suffers from the same problems as the U.K. namely those on the ‘left’ are total fucking wimps.  Obama had a unique opportunity in 2009 to make all sorts of changes and blew it big time.

Aye, the Democrats certainly have gotten their strategy all wrong. They just seem to think the Fox News pish is just cover and the GOP is the same sensible lot they used to pass budgets with.

The US in many ways us two different countries now.

Yet Biden and many other Dems before him could have easily fixed it.

How? Joe Manchin would have blocked it even if Biden managed to get shot of the filibuster, which is also very unlikely and would give the next GOP license to go full Genghis Khan when they next get a majority.

They had many chances since ‘73 to codify abortion into federal law. Why didn’t Obama do it?

Manchin didn’t vote for the recently because the law was too extreme. He said he would have voted for the bill if it preserved abortion right in its current state.

I’ll put my tinfoil hat on but I don’t believe the Dems wanted the legislation to pass. They wanted it a hot topic. I also don’t believe they thought the SCOTUS would revoke them.

Absolute fucking disgrace. That's what happens when every country in Europe ships their religious fanatics and weirdos off to another country and they manage to survive the inevitable slaughtering of each other.

Don’t forget we have our own religious weirdos in government here who wouldn’t happily do the same given the chance

It looks like SCOTUS is now on a mission by ruling in favour of a school coach’s religious shenanigans.  Hopefully there will be a positive reaction in the mid terms.

Is the US not heavily gerrymandered in favour of the minority though?

Yes, like here where 40 odd percent of the popular vote can get you an 80 seat majority in the HoC?
