East Fife V Airdrie

Recommended Posts

When we beat Alloa a couple of week ago, we utterly failed to follow it up with another win the following week, so hoping we can do a better job of putting a run together this time.  If we win or draw and Alloa beat the Rovers (or if we win and they draw) then we'll be in a playoff spot.  Meaningless at this stage of the season, perhaps, but certainly a nicer look to the table than we've had for a wee while.

I assume Schmidt will be suspended after his heids-gone moment last week, but I don't think we've got anyone else unavailable.

hopefully Lamont is back among the team with his creativity like smith in final third, with the team bare thread mostly with forwards and small pool of players it'll depend on how we set up today with some key players missing through injury. With two defeats and recently a draw on our two travels a win back home today would be a morale boost.

Wasn't at the game itself, so had to follow online. Sounds like we were really hanging on towards the end, but were the better team overall. Great to get a clean sheet (especially with Stewart off at half time and McIntosh getting himself sent off) with a couple of good saves from Rohan, given our defensive frailties this season.

Three wins in the last four - onwards and upwards!

A game between 2 poor sides whose performance was incredibly exceeded by a referee who was utterly useless for both sides. He was saved from a disgraceful an d stupid sending off decision in the first half by the stand side linesman. However he did not cost East Fife the game.High balls to Jamie Insall against giant centre backs were never going to work. The chances East Fife had the last 15 minutes were enough to earn a draw but 1 goal in 4 games tells its own story.

Thought the Airdrie goal was well worked with them letting EF get organised in terms of who was marking who then sending both CHs late and taking free kick quickly. We had no chance to get organised and Ryan finished easily. Airdrie looked decent going forward but we didn't put their defence under any pressure till the last 10 mins when their defence didn't look too clever. The Referees performance was unbelievably bad for both teams with numerous baffling decisions. Some of the bookings were ridiculous. Pagey obviously got booked for not being able to disappear into thin air after Ryan knocked the ball past him and ran straight into him. Talking back cost him a second yellow making a red. I think the Ref sent the Airdrie player off cause he realised he'd made a mistake. It was a foul, probably a yellow but never a red card in a million years !!!!

Cant help feeling that if we were a bit more adventurous going forward from the start we could be taking more from these games. As mentioned playing a high ball to Insall is a waste of time.

Lots of talk we were down to bare bones. Granted some may have not been 100% fit but the only players missing were Duggan who basically hasn't played all season. Robinson is injured and O'Hara who has been on the bench was away with Scotland U/19's. Gary has decided to go with a small squad but it's now biting us hard. Need points quickly.

I agree with you about the Referee-he seemed to think that we were there to watch him. It was also a laugh when the Stand Lino waited till he saw the Refs decision before he could decide who to award thrown in to. Given his booking of Airdrie No 2 for just a foul in first half meant he was always under pressure and that explains Pages's card-however he clearly verbally abused him and players have been told about this so he let down his team mates by his petulance; indeed he continued it on way off. Well done to eat Fife for the fight back and thanks to the post for Smith's free kick. I agree we toiled after the sending off off Mcintosh( for what?) but it might be because our midfield shape was broken up as Fitzpatrick went to Full back. Methil will be a hard place to take many points from. I also thought Nasmyth was very good for you but who is your number 4?
