This is a bit like a boomerang that keeps coming back - but Selkirk, Vale and Whitehill were founder members 4yrs ago, and CSS were admitted last year, and they all haven't lights.

Dalbeattie hanselled theirs last month.

Wigtown haven't lights either.

Hanselled is a Quality word HJ

I think it's actually quite an old word that had to do with contracts or exchanging property. For whatever reason it became associated with inaugurating, and particularly floodlights.

No idea why. Possibly as you can't really "unveil" or "open" a set of lights. You would for example say "East Kilbride hanselled Dalbeattie's lights last month".

Bump.

Clarity. As of today it is impossible for an unlicensed club to win SOSL, and no club in bottom half of SPFL2 is located north of the Tay.

Accordingly, we can say with near-certainty - whoever finishes bottom of LL would be relegated; and if HL champion wins promotion to SPFL2 whoever finishes second-bottom of 2 LL would also go down.

Just checking here... By SPFL2, do you mean League 2??

I'd probably meant to say "are all located south of the Tay" or similar.

Put tangibly - if the leagues had ended today Wigtown would be promoted, and Preston relegated. If Brora prevailed over EK + Cowdenbeath, then Selkirk would also be relegated.

Gotcha! What's your thoughts on who will win the playoff, SoSFL and be relegated from LL??

Wigtown look like big favourites for the SoSFL.  Six points clear with just five games to go.

Selkirk seem to be picking up some form.  Prior to losing 3-2 away to Edinburgh Uni today, I think they were four matches unbeaten (including a draw v East Kilbride and a win away to Cumbernauld).  Good form for a team fighting against relegation.  Preston, on the other hand, have lost five in-a-row.  Preston are six points behind with two games in hand but will have to pick up some form.  Preston are at home to Selkirk in April which could be very important.  A lot more interesting now that relegation is possible from the league.  Hawick are still in the mix too (especially if two teams get relegated).  Many games in hand but their manager has recently left and they've conceded 15 goals in the last three matches.

The bottom three in League Two are in terrible form.  Five defeats in-a-row for Cowdenbeath.  Seven matches without a win for Edinburgh City (and only two points in those matches).  Clyde are seven points clear of Cowdenbeath but they've gone ten matches without a win.  If the bottom team ends up with that type of form then I think they'll be favourites to go down.  Hard to predict Highland v Lowland playoffs but I'd go for East Kilbride winning the first playoff and then beating the League Two team.

I hope Edinburgh City survive and a non-league team gets promoted.  Will further help the credibility of the pyramid and will hopefully make an automatic relegation place more likely in the future as league teams will realise that it's very difficult to be promoted back up having to win two sets of playoff matches.

I agree with you on this so much mate! Would be a massive step if they can manage it! Would be good if either City or the newly promoted team could fight for promotion to League 1 next season! That would strengthen any argument

Going purely by the stats, it's really open.

SPFL2
Cowdenbeath are slightly adrift of Edinburgh City in SPFL2 but have 2 games in hand. Edinburgh City themselves are slightly adrift of the pack above them. However everyone in this division has still to play each other once - and City has a second game against Stirling and Cowdenbeath, and Clyde has a second game against Berwick and Cowdenbeath to catch-up.

HL/LL (top end)
Brora head HL on 66pts but only have 5 games left. Meanwhile Cove are on 65pts with 7 games left and Buckie are on 63pts with 9 games left. None have games against each other due. For EK not to win LL could need something like 'Shire winning all their remaining 5 games, including at home to EK on April 22nd - and hoping EK only take 8pts from their other 5.

LL (bottom end)
Still an awful lot of action to play-out afoot LL? Hawick have 9 games left - but 5 of these are against the current top 6. Preston have 7 games left - 3 of these are against the current top 6; also they finish with Selkirk (H) / Edinburgh Uni (A). Selkirk meanwhile have only 5 games left - but 3 of these are against clubs in the bottom 6, and before losing 3-2 today (from 2-0 up) they were unbeaten in 4 matches. Various clubs above still in touch too.

EOSL/SOSL
No-one with a licence at the time of writing can win EOSL. Wigtown are 6pts clear in SOSL with only 5 games left - still to visit Edusport on April 8th but before then they face 2nd and 3rd bottom:
Mar 4th - Upper Annandale (A)
Apr 1st - Nithsdale (H)
Apr 8th - Edusport (A)
Apr 15th - Mid Annandale (A)
Apr 22nd - Abbey Vale (H)

For completeness it is of course worth adding that - if things work like this season anyway - that there is a slight incentive to finish in LL top 2 (bye into Scottish Cup R2). Realistically, this looks to be a fight between 'Shire and Spartans, although it is mathematically possible for Whitehill.

Separately the LL top 4 qualified for the SPFL Challenge Cup, and this looks a very intriguing race - 4th is currently Dalbeattie (P25; 40pts) but Stirling Uni (P25; 38pts), Cumbernauld (P23: 33pts), Whitehill (P20: 31pts) and more tenuously a few clubs below are in pursuit.

Decent chance of Cowdenbeath going from sharing a league with Rangers/Hearts/Hibs in 2014/15 to sharing a league with Wigtown and Bladnoch/Hawick Royal Albert/Civil Service Strollers in 2017/18. Wild.

It's also a decent chance of sharing a league also with the latest Rangers newco if half the stories doing the rounds about their lack of liquidity (except for the Ibrox board room drinks cabinet) are even a quarter true.

Knew you'd be pleased.

Thanks for this HJ it's the first time I've seen our rearranged game with Preston given a date

Just noticing that too.

Shire's rearranged game on the first of April, therefore we have a free Saturday on 18th of March.

Handy for me, the Boys Brigade Junior Section maze marching competition is that date.....not that we've ever been any good at marching, as you'll well know, Holme, but we've got to enter these things.

Missed a goal against Clyde last year because of the competition! Unfortunately got in in time to see Clyde equalise.
