Almost every game I've watched this season has been decided by a couple of points or less. Tbf Port could've won by a bit more today but for some horrible set shots at the end of the first half.

Guernseys are serious business

PORT Adelaide will not be allowed to wear its 'prison bars' guernsey for next week's Showdown against Adelaide, after the AFL threatened to dock the club premiership points should it have gone ahead with its plan.

Club president David Koch revealed on radio that the Power had been prepared to "just bloody wear the thing" as it waited for the League's approval, but was quickly told it could lose premiership points as a result.

It ultimately discovered its fate on Thursday afternoon, with the AFL releasing a statement that said approval for the jumper in 2020 had been given on a 'one-off' basis and confirming that premiership points could be docked for unapproved use.

"The AFL confirms it has not approved the request for Port Adelaide to wear a black and white striped 'prison bars' guernsey for the round eight match vs Adelaide Crows next week," the statement read.

"After reviewing the request from the Port Adelaide Football Club, the AFL determined the existing signed agreements between the Port Adelaide Football Club, Collingwood and the AFL on the use of the 'prison bar' guernsey would remain in place.

"In 2019, the AFL, Port Adelaide and Collingwood came to an agreement that allowed one-off approval for the 'prison bar' guernsey to be worn in Port Adelaide’s home match against the Adelaide Crows to celebrate the club's 150th anniversary.

"That agreement, signed by all parties, stipulated the guernsey was specifically approved for Port Adelaide’s use only for that single match in 2020 and Collingwood’s approval did not bind it with respect to any other future proposals by the Port Adelaide Football Club in respect of the guernsey.

Collingwood Football Club has made it clear that, at this time, it does not agree to further use of the guernsey by PAFC including in 'Showdown' matches against Adelaide Crows.

"On that basis, and consistent with the arrangements that have applied to all previous instances of use of the 'prison bar' guernsey by Port Adelaide since the club joined the AFL (i.e. with the approval of the AFL and Collingwood) the AFL does not grant permission for the guernsey to be worn in round eight.

"The AFL will continue to work with both clubs going forward on any potential future use of the guernsey."

The Power responded with a strongly worded statement on Thursday afternoon, saying it refused the let the issue rest with the AFL's decision ahead of next week's game.

Koch said Port Adelaide's anger was focused on the League, rather than the Magpies.

"Our frustration sits squarely with the AFL, not Collingwood. We believe our request is reasonable. This issue isn't just about Port Adelaide. It is about the passion and connection that ALL fans have for their clubs," Koch said.

"As I've said, this issue isn't going away. It is too important to our people and our club."

Koch had previously said on Thursday morning that, after presenting its case to the AFL in February as to why it should be granted approval to wear the jumper, it had not heard back and had been threatened a fine and a loss of premiership points.

"It'll cost points," Koch told radio station 5AA.

"I said I'm happy to pay the fine, just bloody wear the thing. They said they'll fine me and take points off me … it would be four points for the game. Now, we can't afford that."

They bring this shite up at least once and more often several times a season. Apart from their own feral fans nobody likes them. Bit like Collingwood.

Mon the Swans!

Bit of an up-and-downer this season.

Great to see things generally moving in the right direction and a lively side. I just think there's a flimsiness to them.

Will be in and around though. Really looking forward to seeing next season.

I've caught the end of a few Swans games this season and they've been extremely tense. They're an exciting side. Melbourne have had a ludicrous start, it'll be interesting to see if they can keep it up all year.

Nathan Buckley stepping down from the 'Pies after 10 seasons at helm following a poor start leaving the team in 16th. Will get a swansong however as he doesn't leave until after this weekends Queen's birthday match against Melbourne. Buckley managed the team for 217 games with a 119-99-2 record & was associated with the club going back to 1994 as a player where he played 260 games.

Current 'Pies assistant coach who has been with the club since 2011 as a coach & St. Kilda legend Robert Harvey gets the job on an interim until the end of the season.  Harvey is a hall of fame player who spent 20 years as player with the Saints where he amassed the most games played for the team & is 6th overall across the league.

Shaun Burgoyne of Hawthorn becomes the 5th player in league history to hit 400 games & is currently 4th on 401. Will reach third surpassing the 403 of Kevin Bartlett but won't go higher as he's retiring at the end of the season & 2nd place is 426 by Michael Tuck. Burgoyne is also the first indigenous player to reach the milestone.

Couple of clubs have made coaching moves after missing out on on the finals

Collingwood have brought in Craig McRae as head coach replacing the interim Robert Harvey who had been in charge since Nathan Buckley stepped down after round 13. McRae played for the Brisbane Bears/Lions 95-04 & has held various coaching roles with Collingwood, Richmond & Hawthorn since 2007.

Sam Mitchell has replaced Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn after a change in the clubs succession plan. Mitchell played for Hawthorn 02-16 plus a final season with West Coast. Was at Hawthorn as head of development & penned in to become head coach from 2023 but this was brought forward.

Carlton sacked David Teague & has been replaced by Michael Voss. Voss played for the Brisbane Bears/Lions 92-06 & was last an assistant with the Power for seven seasons. Voss has previous head coach experience with five seasons in charge of the Lions 09-13 making the finals once & picking up a wooden spoon.
