Its a bit of a scandal Europe wide over last 20 years how eastern european lorry drivers in particular have been exploited with low wages to prop up western european countries low prices for goods, if anything positive comes out of this shortage of lorry drivers in UK is that the light being shone on this means people will start to question more about how these drivers are/were treated in Europe/UK and is it acceptable or not and do we sort it in the long term.

It's more likely that we'd rejoin the EU to get the cheap labour back than actually question our consumer habits and stop exploiting workers.

IMO, obviously.

When the shite hits the fan the politicians usually call in the army- Fire brigade strikes, Covid vaccination, NI in the late 60s..

So there's an opportunity here to get some kind of PFI deal and save a bit of money:

The Royal Logistics Corp, proudly sponsored by KFC, are delighted to deliver the ingredients for your Bargain Bucket

Now's as good a time as any for the drivers to strike.

Buy from EU

Would the buying of drugs (for the NHS) not be a centralised operation?

The National Health Services are only 'national' to the countries that make up the UK. NI has its own health service, and accordingly, would have its own procurement team?

I think this might be the body responsible http://www.northerntrust.hscni.net/about-the-trust/corporate-information/procurement-2/

No, that's just one of the Health Trusts.

Some of these contracts have 4 years to run. If the said goods are no longer able to come from GB (assuming they are coming from GB in the first place) it's going to cause problems, contractually and clinically.

Brexit being pushed back again as the Northern Ireland Protocol has been extended indefinitely so GB/NI trade can flow. How is anyone who trades between GB and NI meant to plan when everytime the changes come in they push them back, such a strange way to run policy.
