zidane's child
The chancellor just said that the economy could drop 35% by June. Brexit will be a great idea after all this.

It sounds bad but the majority of our economy produces nothing and adds little value beyond providing employees spending power to consume.

Except of course he never did it, 'cos he has never existed. (neither does the other cheek) It's just us who are the bad or good guys. No-one else, just us. And in my view we are making a mess of it.

cyderspaceman
I happened across this and thought it won't be long until the gammons start campaigning for the restoration of the death penalty. Quote In 2004 the 13th Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights became binding on the United Kingdom, prohibiting the restoration of the death penalty for as long as the UK is a party to the Convention.[1] After they have re-instated fox hunting , of course.

Brits are lazy b*****ds? Not that many people can or want to leave their families and shack up in a caravan for months at a time. You'd think students would be up for it though.

Brits are lazy b*****ds? You essentially get paid less to pick fruit from the ground, outside, living in a caravan in the middle of nowhere on a short term contract than people earn picking shopping in supermarkets and warehouses close to their homes on permanent contracts. The British people don't want fruit picking jobs because the money isn't worth it. Even if you are on benefits it's not feasible to come off UC to fruit pick for three months and cover all the costs of either moving all your stuff or paying for your permanent home while also paying rent on a farmer's caravan. Wages for fruit picking need to be much higher and the benefits system needs to be flexible for seasonal workers. Suspect Device
It just seems mad that flying folk in from Eastern Europe can be cheaper in normal times but when so many folk have just lost their jobs it seems even stranger. Tried to find a figure for wages. This is from The Grocer. Quote Laurence Olins, chairman of British Summer Fruits, puts average pay at between £8.50 and £10.00 depending on speed of work, while Steven Munday, CEO of trade body British Apples & Pears, says in his sector it is on average £300 and £350 a week based on 40 hours worked at £7.50 to £9. “Many can earn more by doing up to 60 hours or piece work. We have a good number earning over £500 per week on a 48-hour week,” he adds. Supervisors also earn more.

Used to go grape picking in France and thought about extending the season, think the wages here were really shite at the time, much worse than France anyway. Used the free wine to numb the back pain for the first couple of weeks until it strengthened. Edited April 18, 2020 by welshbairn
