Last time we tried that Kim Philby (establishment elitist) grassed and our boys were slaughtered on the beaches.

Fun Fact:  After surviving a car bomb, Philby was personally awarded a medal by Franco himself who was unaware that Philby had originally been sent to Spain by Stalin to kill him!

I read this as "philpy" which made it much funnier

Jim Ratcliffe, owner of Ineos and Brexit-loving Monegasque tax exile, showing once again how wonderful it has been for the UK to 'get out of Europe.'

Maybe the Australians will go home now that a Brit has created them a few jobs.

Simple as.

Can someone please film Rees-Mogg's head exploding? If HMG isn't taking back control, who still has it?

The weird twat is already blaming the Civil Service. No doubt a few heads will roll in the Whitehall bowels.

BoE finally admitting (they said taken aback lol) that food price inflation is way above anywhere else in Europe and it's now the main driver of UK inflation with the boffins now revising where they see inflation going and when. For the first time I noticed they actually mentioned Brexit as a contributor and highlighted how much faster prices were rising compared to EU countries. A UKG spokesman used the word "stubborn" when talking about inflation today. They certainly are the masters of understatement.

Brexit doesn't really explain UK food inflation at the moment. Unless a UK business is importing live animals from the EU, the only additional costs are for a customs declaration. Transport and freight costs are higher due to inflation and high oil prices, but those same costs would've been incurred regardless.

However...Brexit will cause a direct hit on food prices later in the year, as the UK will be implementing health controls on imports of animal products (meat, dairy etc.) from the EU in October. This has been put off repeatedly since 2021 for various reasons, but will finally be going ahead. Necessary to prevent the UK from being sued at the WTO for offering favourable facilitation to the EU and no-one else, but it'll cause an upwards hit in costs and, almost certainly, substantial disruption at UK ports. Dreadful timing which will certainly prolong UK food inflation by dragging it back upwards again.

Labour shortages caused by ending freedom of movement and being forced to increase pay must be a contributing factor.

Insignificant compared with energy costs and price rises in certain raw materials like fertiliser tbh.

Given the UK's reliance on imported food and particularly from the EU, I would expect a substantial hit in October and probably some empty shelves. That's where Brexit will really bite regarding food.

What we need is more shit being pumped into the sea and the right to feed babies with proper British baby formula.

In the same breath she says we have to get rid of them and also actually they aren't influencing anything anyway. How do these folk get on TV to express such nonsense?

Her specifically, she's sponsored by the Institute of Economic Affairs.

More broadly, all these right wing talking heads on TV debates are from "think tanks" funded by US oligarchs with the aim of promoting free market/libertarian ideas in UK.
