Salt n Vinegar
Looking forward to hearing the Government's update on the Northern Ireland protocol later today. Should be a good laugh. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57911148 Never mind the Unionist/Republican divide, just wait till the great Marks and Spencer pricing and availability scandal of 2021 kick in.

101
Before Lord Frost delivered his statement I was glad to see another Lord inject some fun into the difficult and potentially dangerous NIP situation.

That might be the EU’s stated position but they are going to have to take some sort of action against the U.K. before they are taken seriously. Personally I think it’s going to have to be Draconian action otherwise Johnson and Co. will just carry on as before. As an aside the guy Frost looks a really smarmy b*****d, the type that will sit with a smug smile on his face whilst his opposing officials threaten action only to go ballistic when they follow through.
welshbairn
It would really easy to sort out, just keep UK's rules aligned with the EU's for a period of time. They already are and I haven't seen any plans to change them. If there are in the future, then discuss how to work it out then. It's pure politics to keep the rabid fundamentalist wing of the party happy. Edited July 21, 2021 by welshbairn

Johnston surrounded himself with the most mental aray of people from the Conservative benches and if he couldn't find the right people he parachuted them in via the lord's.

Ffs another brexit victory for Farage et al. 6 month validity has been a thing in the EU for years and years. The entire 21st century, possibly longer.

Granny Danger
Frosty saying today that the problems have been caused by Remainers and by MPs carrying out the job of deciding whether they will pass legislation. Bástards, absolute bástards.

So it isn't really as you suggest. .

Indeed they can, but after the initial frisson of bravado has subsided the UK would almost certainly pay heavily for that course of action, both in and outwith the EU.

Any potential trade deal with the US would be put on the back burner for a while anyway, Uncle Joe and enough Congressmen on both sides of the aisle would make sure of it. I'm not really seeing why this is all one way tbh. Everyone knows that there are no winners when it comes to trade wars so it is in everyone's interest to reach agreement.

Sure, but it's a bit unfortunate when you try to back out of one 6 months after you signed it, and the other side has far less to lose than you.

Well I’m glad to hear they put so much thought into voting to leave the EU and didn’t make the decision on a daft whim. Sarcasm.
