Am I the only one a wee bitty suspicious about all this coming to a head on the day of the election? A good story to get Mr & Mrs Gammon out to the polling booth to vote for another pineapple ring of conservatism?

I was hoping against hope that Johnson would betray these folk they way he’s betrayed others just for the headline “Boris sold the Jerseys”.

Ditto the BOE with their wild upgrading of the economic recovery, great (suspicious) timing

Same mindset as the Piers crowd who think the worst thing about the Nazis conquering Britain was that we'd have to speak German.

EU citizens being locked up and expelled. A Czech woman arrives from Prague, spends a couple of days in a detention centre and is then deported........ to Mexico. WTF?

In it's desperation to show the EU that it can negotiate it's own trade deals the tories are offering to bend over for a no lube reaming from Australia.

To offer a Tarriff free deal which will see the uk's GDP benefit by 0.02% over 15 years is trading madness.

Even the staunch tory Daily Express says  the following;

'"n the basis of the proposed deal it is almost certain that the balance of trade shift will be in Australia's favour, and therefore the deal disproportionately benefits Australia over the UK, particularly regarding agriculture/food sectors".

The Aussies probably can't believe their luck in taking advantage of the tory governments desperation.

Sandy - a little context.

The UK consumes around 1mn tons of beef per annum.

At present we import 1500 tons from Australia.
If this doubles or triples, then we are only talking minuscule quantities compared to our consumption.

In addition we only produce around 75% of what we consume which means we need to import around 250000 tons per annum.

I think you are overstating things somewhat.

Do you get your figures from the poor crofter from Skye?

Quote

It was widely accepted that 3 million Europeans lived in the UK and would apply to the government’s EU settlement scheme. By the end of last month, however, more than 5.4 million applications to the scheme had been received, with 4.9 million granted settled status.

From a Guardian article today.

The UK population is actually more than 2 million greater than estimated just due to EU citizens and was probably 3 million greater on that basis before Brexit. Crazy stuff.
