DukDukGoose
Just now, MixuFruit said: Right: we export 70% to the EU, we want to carry on at that level, we also want to more eaten domestically. Is your interpretation of the final paragraph quoted different to the above? Don't get me wrong they'll f**k it up because Tories but I don't see anything wrong with the aims. Ok.
DiegoDiego
The Pier in Troon and Pieronis in Ayr are great. Tons of species from local to farmed to exotics. All prepared to your requests.I miss fishmongers in Albania. They'd get the fish out the tank, kill it, gut and scale it then chuck it on the barbecue for you. Some fresh bread from the baker's next door and a quick salad from the best quality veg in Europe with some freshly squeezed pomegranate juice and you have an incredible lunch at less than the cost of a big mac meal.

DiegoDiego
Have had similar experiences in Croatia and Turkey. Magic. In large parts of Istanbul fish restaurants are the only place you can have booze with your meal. I used to love a balik ekmek before getting the bus home.

Colkitto
Tory Minister David Duguid on Good Morning Scotland about Fisheries. How long will it take to fix the problems caused by Brexit on fishing? His answer - “How long is a piece of string.”

On a couple of recent interviews he has repeated the line "Brexit is irrelevant now" Glad Gary Robertson challenged him on this as it is absolutely relevant as the problems experienced now are a diect result of Brexit. Surely the people of Banff and Buchan are never going to vote Tory ever again

doulikefish
Whats going to happen is there will be a headline grabbing "heres some cash" to the fisherman but none of it will actually go to the fisherman and the boat/license owners willl all be driving about in a new car
Cyclizine
15 hours ago, MixuFruit said: She didn't say that though, she said they want to maintain EU trade but also get more people eating fish domestically. Anyway judging from this article (vet checks needed on live exports) the shellfish sector is done anyway. Hope you like dropping your own creels: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/jan/13/fresh-seafood-exports-scotland-eu-halted-fishing-brexit It's all a total clusterfuck and entirely predictable. Who'd have thought that live catch needs transported as quickly as possible with the minimum of red tape? There was a brief hope at the start of the year as it looked like the paperwork would be a bit less onerous than thought, but the logistical requirements of vet certificates, single species consignments combined with border waits and congestion means it's economically unviable for the majority. The financial hit of your catch being turned around at the border is too high. If things settle down, then perhaps things might improve, but with the pandemic on top of it all, a lot of creelers are going to go to the wall. My father in law is lucky in the sense that he's hitting retirement age in the next year or two and has been winding down for the last couple of years anyway, but it remains to be seen if the lad he had lined up will take over the business or if he just closes it. He employs ten or so, so it will be a big hit in a small community. Edited January 14, 2021 by Cyclizine

Granny Danger
Don’t know if this was previously posted, but a U.K. Fisheries Minister was too busy organising a nativity train in the run up to Christmas to focus on reading the Brexit fisheries deal. Seems reasonable.
