The UK Government can say whatever they fucking like, but consider this. Such has been the pace and reach of the Covid-19 pandemic that anyone trying to hold to a plan for the next nine days, never mind nine months, is delusional in the extreme.

Just like Trump trying to wish America back to work in order to stop the US economy tanking ahead of a Presidential election, the Tories are playing this propaganda card to assert their can-do credentials. Fact is, Brexit itself could be a Coronavirus casualty.

Coronavirus may very well delay Brexit, but it certainly won't wipe it out  - not even cause a rethink.

We shall see. When much of British industry and commerce is on the bones of its post-Coronavirus arse the last thing it will need will be what was already an act of economic suicide. There's a long way to go yet on Brexit.

Accrington's not going to like it.

They're already blaming the EU for, not only introducing Coronavirus to our shores, but for inflicting our dear Boris.

Dream on. Remain's consistent strategy was to scare the population with the message that 5 years after Brexit the economy might be 5% smaller. If this coronavirus makes the economy stall* and  shrink 15-20% almost instantly, then do you really think the scare tactic will have much effect? And do you really think an EU, that has just suffered the same contraction, will still allow its fanatics to try to inflict a trade-deal punishment beating on the UK - which is to the EU's mutual disadvantage?

I would expect, after a period of life and death concerns, people will froth less about the mere matter of leaving an economic club.

Stall FFS ? Tank, more like it, with Remain's prediction now looking like a bump in the road. What you are suggesting is akin to telling someone who is barely recovering from TB that we'll continue to saw your leg off as planned, but not to worry as everything will be fine.

Why exactly do you think people like Raab are still beating the Brexit drum ? Because they well know and fear that with every day that passes what was once mere idiocy will quickly morph into disaster in the eyes of more and more people, businesses and organisations.

The state of the economy can be life or death for many. Or do you not know anyone who's worried sick about their rent or their job right now?

Wage cuts, redundancies and debt all around me here – and you think that in a few months' time people are going to brush away the prospect of more economic upheaval like it might be a good idea?

The point that the (whole) post made was we are in the midst of an instant shut down of half of the economy and a 15-20% hit in 2021 was forecast for the economy. As you say, folk don’t know if they have jobs to go back to and how they are going to pay rents and mortgages after a few months. After enduring that, do you really think people are going to be scared by a forecast that the total size (not per head btw) of the Brexit UK economy will grow 1% pa less over the next 5 years?

There’s another reason I think that people will not have any appetite for reopening the whole Brexit issue. It has been national governments (and councils and utilities) that have clearly been seen to be crucial to peoples lives - health services, wage guarantees, repatriations, rubbish collection, electricity, water., lockdowns, border closures etc.  Soon it will be wholesale bail outs for whole industries (outwith EU state aid rules)? The EU has seemed like a complete irrelevance.

We are only one week into this lockdown though. Things could look very different in a month- let alone a year.

Has there been any crackpots on Facebook/twitter yet saying that the coronavirus is just invented to stop Brexit happening?

There must be. Folk are looney tunes.

Probably the same  kind of folks who thought that drinking Corona Beer or Eating Chinese take away food gave you the virus

Aaron Banks trying to use the ECHR to get out of paying his bill to the UK is top notch Brexit banter years.

https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/apr/02/arron-banks-fails-to-use-european-laws-to-avoid-paying-162000-tax-bill

Gives nearly £1M to UKIP over 5 months but fights tooth and nail to avoid a £160k tax bill.

What a guy.
