Whilst this Brexit deal (or any Brexit deal) isn’t what I want it could be the first step to getting rid of Northern Ireland which is a big win.

Just like Scotland,  Northern Ireland wants to remain part of the UK.

Wouldn't they have to overturn the legislation first, before the deal could be accepted?   (if it proves to be the case)

If the rule is in place it must be adhered to, I'd have thought.

Unless they incorporate it in Bill going to Parliament.

Probably all hinges on what Labour will do with MPs who vote with BJ on this one. If they really will be deselected, I suspect the numbers won't be there to get it through.

Quite a few potential Labour ‘rebels’ are standing down, likely to be deselected and/or close to the end of their Parliamentary careers.

I know this doesn’t apply to them all, but it does to a fair number.

Unlike Scotland, the rest of the UK don’t want to keep them hence the new border being proposed.

Re the post above about demographics in NI, if the trend between 2001 & 2011 (6% swing to Nationalists & a 3% difference) then there will already be a Nationalist majority - 15 to 20 years that majority will have reached voting age.

The Unionists better start procreating pretty soon.

Had a thought that maybe the ERG have a devious plan. Back the deal on Saturday in the hope that it passes, cancelling the Benn Act, then vote down one of the other necessary bills just before 31st Oct, so we crash out. The DUP have been hinting about something like that. Oliver Letwin's got an amendment that could foil the plan by keeping the Benn Act active until all the secondary legislation is passed, but it could easily get voted down.

It's nothing like that simple. What you are not being told is that the apparent trend on tribal head count numbers last time around was mainly due to a relatively large influx of Polish and Portuguese economic migrants through being in the EU rather than what was happening amongst people born and raised in NI. That hasn't been continuing to happen at the same rate.

Also worth noting that there is a growing group that identifies as neither RC or Protestant because they realise there is no sky fairy. Until recently they have tended to be from a Protestant rather than an RC background, but that's changing so it's quite possible that there will never be 50%+ that identify as Roman Catholic and that both religious groups will slowly recede in the years ahead as rational thought becomes the name of the day.

If things do settle down to something reasonable where the border is concerned, UI could quickly fade as a pressing issue. The bizarre thing about what has been happening is that the DUP have appeared to be doing their best to engineer the scenario where that's definitely not the case.

Imagine living in a country where religion is the main determining factor in the political and electoral process.

It’s like something out of the dark ages.

Not that long ago in historical terms the SNP were not above stating that they were fighting a "Winning campaign" to try to tap into rampant homophobia being fueled by certain religious figures in the Daily Record. Scotland isn't the same as NI, but that doesn't make it some sort of idyllic Shangri-la.

Got a nasty horrible feeling the Govt is going to win the vote tomorrow.

So many labour MPs in heavily Leave voting are areas are just absolutely terrified of upsetting their constituents - some of whom can probably demonstrate a violent disposition. So what will the leadership do? It will be nothing more than a slap on the wrists - if that.

Corbyn will do f**k all.

Are you saying that the referendum result shouldn't be adhered to regardless of a deal?
