DeeTillEhDeh
I love how the gammons can spout any old nonesense and not be challenged on it.Yesterday some old guy proudly waffled that Brussels was stealing "our money" then today some women was "we should go for wto rules"Both bbc beakfast news surely the reporter should in both cases just ask "please explain"It amazing how much shit goes unchallenged - especially stuff that is factually inaccurate - not based on opinions.
Brother Blades
You’re worse; you can’t even change the thread title. I’m proposing a vote of no confidence in you. Oh that’s rich! You voted in favour of Brexit! Tbf, you’ve been quite contrite about it, but you did contribute to the 52%. Disgrace. [emoji5]

DeeTillEhDeh
This talk of cross-party consensus is a crock of shit. It should have been done 2 1/2 years ago but May was too busy appeasing the Hard Brexit wing of her party. It's been no deal vs Hard Brexit since day one - soft Brexit has never been on the table because she is too frightened of the right wing shitebags in her party. The crazy thing is that if soft Brexit had been put forward there would have been IMHO a majority to support it in Parliament and in the electorate. Too interested in avoiding splits in her own party than the greater good - it would be poetic justice if the Tories end up splitting in any case.
welshbairn
I wonder if we could form our own EFTA style arrangement without fucking it up for Norway, Iceland etc? Start off with total EU convergence and gradually negotiate opt outs like fish and ag, like a reverse Switzerland, but withdraw from the political institutions from the start to appease the leavers.
Jambomo
I think these cross-party talks are just a smokescreen. The Guardian are still reporting that May won't change her mind on a customs union or second referendum, which really rules out most of the ideas that the other parties have. The talks have no chance of being successful whilst May refuses to budge from her position, one that has already been rejected by Westminster.

The problem is that the hardcore UK nationalists have been allowed to control the narrative. Since the vote, they have told the people of the UK that what they voted for was the hardest of Brexits - a drawbridge pulled up, the foreigners banned, and not a penny to Europe. Anything less, they’ve continually claimed, will be a betrayal of Mother England. This is all despite the fact that before the vote even Farage was championing Norway. Plenty of folk have been quite prepared to swallow the rewriting of history and the idea that “GET EVERYTHING EUROPEAN TO ABSOLUTE f**k” was on the ballot paper. May, naturally, has been part and parcel of this, with her red lines drawn up to help the hard Brexit narrative along. It's a real possibility, the closest to a revolution we've had in a while. And by Centrists! Everyone on the left and right will be furious!

"17.4 million people voted for my idea of Brexit - whatever that might be." Total contempt for the idea of a softer Brexit.
welshbairn
It would be ironic if the first left wing leader Labour have had since Michael Foot ends up enabling a right wing coup.

strichener
4 hours ago, Savage Henry said: At this point, it's remain or leave with no deal. Either way, the UK is split almost right down the middle. A GE will likely return another very close vote. Another referendum will return another close vote. Frankly, nothing is going to resolve this. Either we leave and suffer to the point that some government minister floats the idea of rejoining, or we stay and swathes of the population feel their opinion counted for nothing. It's a cliche, but we're all just looking for the least worst option. The least worst option is to reach a negotiated settlement for withdrawal and the only ones currently stopping that from happening are those that wish to remain in the EU. If the current deal was put to the electorate I have a feeling that it would probably command a similar majority to the original vote. Of course if that happened then it would be extremely difficult for vast swathes of MPs to justify their current position. -
