Favourite quirks of Scottish stadiums.

Oddly quite a few Falkirk fans want to build a 4th stand at their ground*. That would be an exceptionally stupid move and I have no idea why so many of them seem in favour of it.

*By which I mean they want a 4th stand to be built, not that they wish to physically build it themselves.

If they were to get back in the top flight, they'd sell it out for the Old Firm and possibly the Edinburgh clubs. It would complete what is otherwise a very impressive stadium. Right now it looks a bit Mickey Mouse.

The main stand at Falkirk is similar to the JHS stand at Firhill in that it’s stupidly big. Would have made far more sense to have 4 smaller stands.

A Muirton Park style covered terrace would look fantastic there imo....

Not really when allowing for the staged development of the stadium. Having the larger main stand allowed them to open the stadium with just 2 stands.

Well now there's safe standing in the SPL, that would maybe be a possibility. Is it possible to have a terrace without any seats, though? Otherwise it'd be more expensive than an ordinary seated stand, presumably.

Football supporters have an idealised picture of what a football ground looks like and will fly in the face of sense to get it.

When Airdrie were building their ground there were chances to stop work and save money, they weren't taken because Directors at the time had that ideal picture in their own minds and had a fear of supporters reaction to having partially complete end stands.

The empty land behind the Falkirk Stadium, opposite the main stand.  It's a really nice stadium, inside and out, but loses a lot of atmosphere because of the absence of a stand on that side.

A pal mentioned the fact why we had to build the stadium so far towards Grangemouth with the massive car park to the front of the main stand. Ok, it looks impressive from the front, but was it built that far back to hit the exclusion zone?

The main stand is pretty big as well. Even when Airdrie have a decent support in it there is still and emptyness. Maybe if it was same size as the stand opposite it would be better.

Looking at the stadium at falkirk could they not finish it with a small covered enclosure more akin to the old Brockville covered enclosure than the Muirton Park one above.

Something like the covered terrace at Forfar would not cost too much to build.

It would have to be free or clubs would need paid to build it. There is no money to do anything other than essential maintenance. It would be more logical to dismantle and sell stands, but finding anyone to buy them would be the hard bit.

Speaking of Motherwell, am I right in remembering that when the stand behind the goal was first built, they tried to recoup some of the money up front by offering away fans the chance to buy tickets for their clubs' games at Fir Park for the next three seasons at a reduced rate? I think they were almost universally told to GTF as nothing had been said about a refund if the teams were in different divisions in the time covered.

That would be utterly pointless though. They don't need a 4th stand. The cost of it and the cost of maintaining it would surely far outweigh any potential benefits.

Does the lack of a fourth stand at Falkirk provide them with greater access and flexibility when constructing a stage for concerts, that extra stand could be limiting.

Plus with the addition of the new pitches behind the space for the 4th stand it will now possibly never be built.

There's still plenty of room for one.

A completed 10,000 seater Falkirk Stadium would look tremendous - perfect for us back in the premier...

Loved that ground.  The only downside was standing at the fence giving w****r signs to someone and then going for a pish to see him standing next to you.  I was 15 and shit myself when I saw a guy I had been giving it the come ahead sign to standing two along from me.  Dodgy perth b*****ds probably built it like that on purpose...

It was specifically Rangers and Celtic IIRC (other 'Well fans might have better/different memories). They sent a seriously cringey letter to OF supporters' clubs trying to sell them some sort of debenture scheme - crackpot stuff that was an utter failure.

He's far too auld for that, and the guy was built like a semi professional grouse beater.   If it was him, I'd ask tam Cowan to get him the next time they do off the ball.  Tam does post here, I just can't remember which of  you is him.  Cosgrove was part of the perth pact though.  I think that's what they called themselves.  We called them twats
