Favourite quirks of Scottish stadiums.

Despite being too big for us, I've always though RP had a bit of character for a new built stadium.

It's not really a new built stadium though, it's an upgraded one.

Couple of cracking old pictures of Ibrox from 1972 as Rangers parade the ECWC.

When did Ibrox go from an oval to the squared stands they have now?  Possibly an unpopular opinion but I think modern day Ibrox is the best stadium in Scotland. Love walking into that wee away end in the corner and feeling like the stadium is on top of you.

It was rebuilt in phases between 1979 and 1982.

Was ahead of it's time back in the day but showing severe signs of wear and tear now, although sightlines/views and atmosphere it is still excellent and pisses all over Hampden on those fronts.

It has been developed since the major redevelopment you mention as well. It had those daft coloured seat blocks we have at McDiarmid for the first 15-20 years.  Wasn't the capacity in the years after redevelopment about 44,000?  The enclosure at the front of the Main Stand remained terracing for a good few years until the Taylor Report.

The third tier of the Main Stand was added in the early 90's, then the corners filled in on the opposite side of the park during the mid 90's, which for a gain of only a couple of thousand seats, has massively improved the stadium, in making it feel more enclosed.

Compared to the shape of Hampden and how they used to be, Ibrox and Celtic Park are far better for getting rid of the huge spaces behind the goals.  Both good stadiums, Celtic only let down by the view from the away end, and the fairly shite Main Stand.

The “Club deck” was early ‘90s wasn’t it

It’s a rather impressive solution to a site specific problem.

The kind of thing that Aberdeen seem to be missing

Aye, they added a third tier to the main stand early 90's and filled in the corners between Govan and the Copland and Broomloan stands.

Seem to recall most of those Club Deck seats were debentures/seats for life type things which, by all accounts newco Rangers refused to honour in 2012 when old Rangers died and the tribute act came into existence, not 100% sure of the accuracy of these but heard it from a few different people and genuinely wouldn't be surprised at the brass neck of the c***s doing that.

Wouldn't that be a flat-out admission that they're not the same club?

South of Scotland club Wigtown & Bladnoch's Trammonford Park has the address of 'Near Wigtown'

So will our new stadium, probably.

Would be more appropriate , come to think of it.

It's about a half mile walk downhill from the town centre. I've done it.

The sort of imaginative/expensive solution that we simply can’t, and will never be able to, afford.

Rangers in the early 90s were about as cash rich* as any Scottish club’s ever been.

Though in their case the Inland Revenue decked the club.
