Favourite quirks of Scottish stadiums.

East Fife's long gone Bayview Park, infinitely better than the soulless one stand breezeblock nightmare they have now.

I went to the testimonial game against man u there, vaguely remember going up steep steps to get to it. All housing there now

The temporary stand at Celtic Park that stood from late 95 to summer of 97 when the Jock Stein Stand was built.

I was in the away end when celtic beat raith 2-1 in a cup tie in 95? And we were seated quite close to the edge (in the top teir) and it was scary looking down. Hard to imagine it like that now.

Some more pictures of the original Bayview, found online and 'borrowed' for this thread.  Was along the classic lines of Scottish grounds: 3 sides of terracing, with a covered enclosure along the side of the park, and a seated grandstand on the opposite side. I regret never having had the chance to see a game there as it looks a great wee Park, steep terracing close to the pitch and located in the town.

You feel that new stand they have now, in place of the stand and directors glass box thing in the first picture, with the other 3 sides the same, and you'd have the perfect lower league ground.

As flyboy says, must be heartbreaking for East Fife fans comparing it to the single Stand soulless place their chairman at the time landed them with.

Cracking wee ground, which I always enjoyed going to, and it is sad that it is no longer there.    Agree about it being shame they moved to the new stadium, possibly a bit similar to Dumbarton, as I always loved going to Boghead.   Their fans might feel differently though.

My friends father, John Niven, played for East Fife in the 50s before transferring to Kilmarnock.   He won a league cup winners medal with them in the early 50s.

OMG...OMG...how lethal do they look. No wonder they replaced these death traps with seats. Unsafe standing was obviously horrific.

Amazing to think they’re up there in the major honours list for Scottish football with 4 major trophies. The last was as recent as 1955, which is good going considering a lot of the smaller clubs who have a bit of historical success did it in the late 1800’s etc.

That old Bayview must have been rocking with 22,500 in it for their record crowd!

A whole culture wiped out in the space of a decade or two, sad.  Don’t think it’ll ever go back, but you never know.

Sadly it wont. It obviously wasn't all perfect and society has changed but it's been wiped out for police control and financial reasons, not the safety excuses it's masked as. This is highlighted by a couple of cracking new rugby league grounds that have been built  in England that echo many of these old fashioned football grounds and would be absolutely ideal for the vast majority of Scottish football and many English league clubs.  Rugby league terracing with traditional crush barriers = no problem.  Football terracing with traditional crush barriers = omg, death traps, twitter meltdown, questions asked in parliament.

AFAIK you don't get crowd trouble at rugby league games. Violence on the pitch, yes; on the terraces, no.

And you don't  get trouble at the vast majority of Scottish football games.

I've stood on many terraces in Scotland, often close or beside opposition fans with no segregation. Literally zero deaths. In fact literally zero injuries.

I've also stood on terracing in Scotland with segregation. Again, no deaths. No injuries.

I was there for East Fife v ICT in August 98 in a 5-1 win for us.  Fantastic ground and an excellent view from behind the away goal IMO.
