Have managed to get to all three league games so far....EK are playing so much more as a team this year-credit to the new management! Would still take Adam Strachan back tho-he looked out of place and unhappy in the BSC team. Am also really impressed with the new signings-especially  Craig Reid and Graeme Holmes

Yeah craig reid looks a great find. I thought holmes was coming in more for a coaching role when he was signed but he has looked different class at this level. Fair play to the manager for getting these guys in.

5-ALIVE KILBY MARCH ON IN LEAGUE

.
 11-Aug-2018

East Kilbride FC  5 - 1 Vale of Leithen

East Kilbride retained top spot in the Lowland League, after a comfortable 5-1 win over Vale of Leithen at K-Park on Saturday.

A first half double by Paul Woods, either side of a Sean Stewart strike for the visitors gave EK the edge at half-time, and further goals from substitutes Ross McNeil (2) and Sean Winter, completed the scoring in a match which was much tougher than the result suggests.

EK started well, and Woods netted from close range on 11 minutes, after good work by Malcolm and Anderson, but the joy was short-lived, as Vale levelled straight from the kick-off, after a mix up between McGinley and Coll allowed Stewart the easiest of chances to make it 1-1.

Kilby roared back and Woods, then Longworth were denied, before Longworth's chipped cross from the left was met by the head of Woods on 25 minutes, and the ball was bulleted home to make it 2-1.

EK though they had increased the advantage on 40 minutes, but Craig Malcolm's low finish after a fine piece of play from Michael Anderson was flagged for off-side, and half time arrived with Kilby one goal in front.

The second half saw much of the same, with Kilby enjoying much possession, but being frustrated by some fine and dogged Vale defending, forcing Brian Kerr into a double change midway through the second period, with Sean Winter and Ross McNeil replacing Anderson and Longworth.

McNeil had the chance to make an instant impact, but was denied by the visiting goalkeeper after good set up play from Malcolm.

But McNeil would not be denied, and the points were secured on 75 minutes, when the striker combined with Woods, before firing home an unstoppable shot from 25-yards to make it 3-1, and the relief was visible from all the home fans at K-Park.

Now thriving in confidence, Kilby were playing free-flowing attacking football, and McNeil added his second on 79 minutes, when he was brilliantly and unselfishly found by Winter, to tap in, and it was 4-1.

The final goal came 5-minutes from time, when Winter earned himself a well deserved goal, netting from close range with his left foot, after the ball had struck the bar from a Malcolm cross.

Anton Brady was named NXP Semiconductors man-of-the-match after a fine display in midfield, and the win keeps Kilby confidence high ahead of Wednesday's Irn Bru Cup match against Spartans.  Admission details for this match will be issued on Sunday.

A good crowd at the game yesterday and team looking good and as always good hospitality served to the Vale team and committee, all the best for the season and hopefully we will return the hospitality when you visit Victoria Park later in the season, although I hope for a different score.

Good result-I thought wee Barry (and Ross and Sean) all looked sharp when they came on. It’ll Be interesting to see who plays v Spartans on wed night.  If put Scott back to right back and give Barry a game in central defence, or if Craig Howie is fit, give Barry a game at left back (Reid and Howie in the centre

Despite the scoreline, I actually thought Vale of Leithen looked pretty decent today.  Certainly a lot better than the previous times I saw them.  Best of luck with the rest of the season.

We are very hopeful for the season at Vale, the programme of facing Spartans and Kilby in the first few weeks was always a tall order and with a newest team we knew we would be up against it in these games. However, in both games we stayed in the games until the last 15 minutes when we went looking for the equaliser. Some good defending and a bit of luck along the way but we are not too down. We also lost two of our new players prior to these games with a broken ankle and dislocated shoulder.

However, everyone at the club, players, committee and supporters are all looking forward to this season and gaining some momentum in the coming weeks.

Kilby are the best we have faced this season so far, and if you don't win the league you will not be far away.
