The Dalbeattie star Thread

Match of the Day

Absolutely that's fitba. Anyone following the Lowland League over the years will know that lots of games are so tight that a save or miss here or there will decide where the points go. Over the piece we played some lovely but not very effective football.  Dalbeattie defended superbly,  broke well , but in the end it was a massive 3 points.

How does a side go from losing 8-0 at the weekend to almost holding the defending champions to a draw?

Dalbeattie are a pain in the arse to play away from home. Dont think we've won down there yet

Feel like we always manage to scrape a 2-0 victory but it's never easy.

3 games in,3 lost and no goals,Do star need a new striker as creating plenty of chances.

Not so sure another striker is needed so soon in the season, only one of the chances on Saturday were missed by the lone striker in the first half when he lobbed the keeper but put it wide of the post. the rest were from attacking midfielders making runs into the box. Ben Irving was missing Saturday, so another option when he returns.

September, big month for The Star,  two league games, Gretna away and Vale at home with two cup games sandwiched in between.  Could go a long way to defining the season. Need to start scoring goals and beat Gretnafc2008 and Vale, draws must be a minimum.  Winnable cup game at home to Gala as well. Here's hoping for 3 wins in the month.

Difficult times at Dalbeattie. Manager completely out of his depth? Players not up to standard?

Daz Kerr wasn’t the best manager for Star but the Maxwell guy would be better taking a step back. Laughable.

Some of players are simply not good enough or past their best.

Didn’t spend money on keeping some of last year’s good players instead going with some unproven lads who would struggle to play with Threave, Abbey Vale and other top teams in Southern Counties League.

Thomson, Kerr, Tremble all young but not good enough. Should play in Southern Counties to find there level first of all.

Not being funny here: but is sitting 12th with 7pts from 10 games actually that bad going, given the playing resources available? Previous couple of seasons Star finished 14th (22pts) and 14th (29pts).

This time last year The Star had 8 points from 9 games and lay !4th in the league out of 15 if you exclude  Selkirk. At the moment Played 1 more, 1 less point but probably more important lying 12th out of 16. You can argue if that is progress or not, but the league is getting more difficult for the likes of The Star and at the end of the day league position is all that matters.

Just looks like it is going to be another rollercoaster of a season, more consistency needed, 2 shocking home defeats sandwiched between scoring 4 and 5 away from home. The same old record just keeps going round and round

4-0 victory sends Star into QFs.

Bump.

As their dig for minor silverware continues they pit themself versus Lochmaben (A) in QF.

That tie is set for distant Wed 29th April (7pm); the midweek between Lowland League Cup R1 & R2.
