vikingTON
Get out of there after a few days and head over to San Diego for the rest of your trip instead. On 9/5/2016 at 17:06, Snakebite said: try the older areas, you wont get fleeced for booze etc. 9 bucks for a coors light or a bud most places and with the shoddy exchange rate and that tipping service bollocks it makes for a lot of expense. 7-eleven is also your friend when just wandering around as drinking on the strip is legal.
lanky_ffc
Went for 5 days this time last year and blew about $1,300. Didn't do any shows and barely spent a penny in the casinos as it's not really my bag. Pool parties and clubs can be pricey for drinks, but booze out the supermarkets isn't any worse than here and there are plenty of bars do that promos/happy hours. Would recommend Fuel Bar for a warm-up if you're staying on/near the strip.
Louis Litt
Yeah there's no danger I'd be staying in Vegas for two weeks, even factoring in a trip to the canyon I think a week is excessive. Follow VT's advice and head out to California for a bit, you'll be sick of the sight of the strip after that length of time.
Hampden Diehard
It seems like a helluva long and expensive trip if you're not a gambler. My idea of Hell. But I'm not a gambler.

When I graduated uni my parents asked where I wanted to go on holiday as a treat and I jokingly said Vegas. Whole family went and I was nervous my parents would hate it. That was 8 years ago and I think they've been back 5 times since

Waspy
What would be the ideal number of nights for a first time stay?
Inanimate Carbon Rod
What would be the ideal number of nights for a first time stay? If you’re only going away for the sole reason of visiting vegas then a 4-5 night stay would be enough, if you’re making it part of a 2-3 week trip then 2/3 nights. (4-5 nights because of jet lag/tiredness in a one destination)
Moo
Just booked for April next year. Originally looked at booking for 5 nights, left it 2 weeks, came back and price had went up £200. Looked at going a day earlier, so now 6 nights and getting it £100 cheaper. Staying at the MGM Grand hotel? Seems decent enough going by the reviews. Anyone stayed there before?

Good restaurants on their ‘restaurant row’, always a buzz there at night. MGM Grand on one corner, New York New York, Tropicana, and Excalibur on the other corners. Have a blast mate.

Staying at the MGM Grand hotel? Seems decent enough going by the reviews. Anyone stayed there before? I stayed there a good few years ago. It was decent but once you're inside the room it's pretty much like any other. The swimming pool was nice enough but it was under renovation so a bit messy. Also, we had a problem when we checked in (they'd lost our booking) and it was over a long weekend so our travel company couldn't be reached until the Tuesday - turns out it was the hotel's fault so they gave us a load of freebies but it was a hassle as we had to pay for the room again and then they refunded later. Also, I reckon they shafted us on the room as we ended up in a desert view rather than a strip view but they said it was all they had when we booked in. The above isn't painting a great picture but don't be put off by it; we were just unlucky and it was an excellent hotel.
