Marini's outside Hampden is also very nice, and the boy behind the counter loves dishing out free cans of irn-bru.

If you go a block or two further towards the city centre you hit Hooked, which is ridiculously good. You have to be patient and not mind spending a wee bit more though, as they only cook to order and it's not the cheapest. Their hake supper is great though, and you can get a variety of tasty spice shakes on your chips. Three choices of batter types too, if I remember rightly. Home-made tartare sauce too.

A few weeks ago I was in the Peak District and went to the chippy in Hayfield. Everything cooked in beef dripping, and four types of homemade pies on offer too. Delightfully good.

Castlevicci which is Paulo Nutini's parents place in Paisley is up there as one of the best chippies I've been to. Gave birth to a shite songwriter but can certainly do a fantastic roll and fritter.

Not near a football ground in paisley admittedly which the thread is all about ️however just as a sidetrack Allan's snack bar in storey street in paisley beats everything else ive ever tried in Paisley hands down. A simply great chippy.

Went round there on Saturday evening.

Didn't realise it closed at 8. Got there just as it shut.

Had to make do with an uninspiring Cosmos.

Half battered pizza used to be the takeaway of choice when I was a plukey teen but I've only had one once or twice since I left the school. This threads really got me in the mood. As for suppers.

Fish obviously the clear favourite being from Arbroath

White pudding in second

Black pudding in 3rd

Only had white pudding for the first time in the last few year and I couldn't believe what I'd been missing. Delightful stuff.

I think the lack of opening hours is testament to just how good it really is.

Sells so much during the day all day that if doesn't have to be open too late to make further money .

Always great for a sit in supper and proper old school surroundings, ive never had anything bad out of it before .

I had the extreme misfortune of being in Paisley this afternoon so got a chippy from 'Caprice' on Gilmour Street, which was handy for the first fast train out of the bin. Pretty good (breaded) fish and chips on a lunchtime deal for £3. They wisely seemed to use the same portion of fish as a normal supper with less chips, which worked fine for me and lasted until dinner. The meal itself did not make it past Bishopton. A solid 8/10 effort - slightly poorer as a breaded fish suppers than Arlecchino's in Greenock. The best chip shops on the Clyde Riviera are probably Orangefield and Gianni's around Greenock West Station, though it's not a cuisine that the area specialises in.

The Wee Hurrie in Troon has presumably been nominated many times over and is outstanding for the seafood; I can't remember too much about the chips though after working through the seafood element of their fritto misto supper. The Ashvale in Brechin is massively overrated and their chips are shite.
