we're 4.2 points ahead of Austria in 9th and 4.800 ahead of 10th placed Belgium, these two are the only real threats to us right now unless red star and partizan belgrade have runs to the semi finals of their stages and our 3 clubs are all mince.

after this season we lose 6.750 from the coefficient and we currently have 2.300 for this season.

Ideally we want to reach 6.750 again for this season to replace what we're about to lose but at the very least i'd guess we need at least 4.500 to maintain 8th.

Belgium have 4 clubs so have more chances than us to gain on the 7.800 they're about to lose, they currently have 2.400.

Austria have 3 clubs and are going to lose 6.200, they currently have 1.900 so hopefully they wont match that and will get less points making them unlikely to challenge us if all goes well

However we could just ignore all that and hope that celtic, zombies and hearts just get us to 6.750+ so our coefficient basically stays the same or goes up closer to netherlands and portugal.

With the Champions League expanding to 36, has anything been confirmed regarding the Europa & Conference Leagues? Googling doesn't bring up any definitive with the obvious focus being on the CL.

same things happening in Europa League and Conference League

Here's the country rankings before the start of the group stage.

There's no access list difference between 8th and 9th, so another country making up the 4-5 point gap doesn't really matter.

Update after matchday 2 - Belgium the big movers with two wins for Club Bruges and 4 points from each of their other three teams, they'll end up ahead at the rate they're going.

Anderlecht have a double header against West Ham

Brugge have a double header against Madrid

Swedish should be sterner competition for gent

Usg have a double header against braga

Theirs a good chance the Belgians don’t pick up any pints In next two match days

I’d say their more chance of Scot’s picking up

7 points over that’s course of games

One thing's for sure, getting humped every fortnight in Europe is *definitely* making the likes of Callum McGregor a better player!

Surely playing in the elite club competition makes you a better player regardless ?

I was obviously being a tad blase, but if you want to make it about being an elite club competition, Celtic will play two games against an elite club in the Champions League. In England he'd play at least ten.

So the 5th club in English football is an elite club but the 4th Club in Germany isn’t?
